  1. I have searched this question to no avail.

I have demuxed the ac3 from an avi using the virtdub mod. Following the guide I then open the ac3 file along with my video file into tpmeg dvd author prog.

When I try to bring the ac3 it tells me that it is an illegal file, that it must be ac3 ....

    ???

I am not sure what is going on.
I have the AC3ACM mod, it's installed. Is it supposed to run on it's own? I'm pretty sure it's just a decomressor for virtdub mod.

    Any suggestions.

    Cheers

  2. AFAIK, TmpGenc cannot open AC3. But why try and do so. If encoding to DVD, use TmpGenc for video only. Then supply the mpeg video and the Ac3 (untouched) to your Authoring app.

If making (S)VCD, use HeadAc3he to convert the Ac3 to wav. Then use the wav as the audio source in TmpGenc when encoding your mpeg.

Bugster, read zzman's post. he's trying to open his ac3 in Tmpgenc DVD author, NOT tmpgenc for encoding. this IS his authoring app.

zzman, does your cppoy of DVD author have the AC3 plug-in? it has to be purchased seperately (unless you bought both together in the new off-the-shelf box). without it, Tmpgenc DVD author wont handle AC3 files.

    .
    oops

In that case I suggest running the Ac3 file through Ac3fix to try and correct any errors in the stream.

@Radixmind, TDA will quite happily accept externally encoded, valid, AC3 files. You only need the AC3 plugin to encode your own AC3 streams from other formats such as wav.

  5. Thanks guys,

I checked into the ac3 pluggin, that looks like why it was'nt opening it.

However I noticed that it does not support Dolby Digital only stereo.

How would I be able to encode the dvd keeping the DD?

    Cheers

  6. The TDA Ac3 plugin will take your wav or other audio file and encode it to 2-ch Ac3. That is still Dolby Digital, just only 2 channles. You can't make 5.1 surround sound from a stereo source without a huge amount of effort.

As I said, TDA will accept DD 5.1 Ac3 encoded audio if the stram is valid, you don't need the plugin for that. If it is rejecting your ac3 file, there is something wrong with it. Try ac3fix.
