  1. I'm looking to buy an mp3 player and I noticed most have a 2.0 usb interface. I think I still have usb 1.1 ports. Do I NEED a 2.0 port, or will an mp3 player still be able to connect to a 1.1 port. If it can, I know the dl time would take much longer but I don't really care about that.

    Thanks!

  2. Yes you can use it. Just the speed will suffer.

  3. Ditto.

    USB 2.0 will auto-negotiate to 1.1 speed if connected to a 1.1 port. USB 2.0 is downward compatible.

    1.1 = 12Mbps / 2.0 = 480Mbps -- potentially 40x faster

    Hello,

    If you really want faster transfer times I think you can get a pci usb 2 card for $20 or so. Try ebay as well...

    How much does your MP3 player hold?
    Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore.

    When burning CD's with wav. files. A USB 2 card was tons faster on my computers. Smartist thing I did in a while. The burner was in the computer, and the HD was external. I don't remember exactly, but the speed increased from ABOUT 30 minutes to 6 minutes. Its was so much faster I bought another for the other computer, just in case. Tons faster.
    thanks Mike
