  1. I remember reading some articles/postings about the limitations of DVD+VR format:
    (1) It can only record in 4:3, not 16:9
    (2) The "jump to time code" function on DVD player will not work for a DVD+VR format disc.

I cannot find the articles/postings again. Can any one confirm these?

Or can any one confirm that this is not the case because their DVD recorder can record disc in DVD+VR format without the above limitation(s).

    Thanks in advance.

DVD+VR is also CVBR, not VBR or CBR.

  3. Since no one can give me an counter example, should I assme that the limitations are really there?

  4. Hi,

    Regarding (1):
A 16:9 wide screen signal from a digital settop box can be recorded using the +VR format, but not in a way that is compatible to the DVD Video Format. That means, anamorphic 16:9 recordings are displayed in the correct aspect ratio if recorded and played back on a Philips DVD+RW recorder, but in an incorrect aspect ratio, if then played back on a normal DVD player. Sony Recorders up to now can't store a wide screen signal on DVD+R(W) disks.

    See also under "Aspect ratio":

    I really don't remember.
I would not doubt the 4:3 only limitation. But not positive.
The other one, I doubt, but again, not sure.

The main concern for me has always been CVBR instead of VBR.
