  1. Here are the specifics before I ask my question...

    GSPOT:
    Size=700MB
    Type=OpenDML AVI
    IMRR=1.00
    I\L=1 vid frame (42ms), p=480 Split No
    4CC = xvid
    Runtime = 2:03:48
    xy=624x256(2.44:1)[=39]
    Bitrate = 627kb/s
    FPS = 23.97

    ffmpeg:
    Converted audio to AC3 256kbs

    VideoCalc:
    Came up with a calculated bitrate of 4684 with audio included

    TMPGenc Plus (settings I used based on above info)
    Stream Type=MPEG-2 Video
    Size 720x480
    Aspect Ratio=16:9 Display
    Frame Rate=23.976fps
    Rate Control Mode=2-pass VBR
    -Setting
    AVG Bitrate=4684
    Max Bitrate=9500
    Min Bitrate=2000
    Max Pass=2 Pass
    P Picture=0
    B Picture=20
    VBV Buffer size=0(Automatic)
    Video Format=NTSC

    ADVANCED Tab
    Video Source=Intelace
    Field Order=Top first(A)
    Source Aspect Ratio=16x9 525line NTSC
    Video Arrange Method=Full Screen (keep aspect ratio)
    All Filters Unchecked

    GOP structure
    I GOP=1
    P GOP=4
    B GOP=2
    Output sequence header=1
    Max GOP=18
    Detect Scene Change=checked

    Quantize Tab
    MPEG standard
    Encode Mode=Interlace
    YUV format=4:2:0
    DC component precisison=10 bits
    Motion Search=fast

    Here is my question... How should I set this up in TMPGenc Plus? I achieved the settings above after lokking at some of the guides. Currently I have two problems.

    1. I cannot come up with any type of standard aspect ratio given 624x256(2.44:1). What should be used?

    2. GSPOT showed a fps of 23.976 so I used that during my twelve hour encode. When I tried to open the .MV2 file in TMPGenc Author it yelled and said 23.976 is not a valid DVD frame rate.

    Could somebody please help me tweak my settings so I can play as a standard DVD in a stand alone player. I don't mind the time it takes to come up with a great end result but waiting 12 hours to find out the fps is non-standard is a heartbreaker. I guess that's why I'm a newbie.

    Thanx in advance!

  2. Try these.
    Set it to 4:3 unless you actually HAVE a widescreen TV.
    On the advanced tab, set source to 16:9, keep aspect ratio 2.

  3. Thanx REBOOT,

    Under the Advanced tab, what should...

    Video Source type

    Source aspect ratio

    video arrange method

    be set to?

    I do have an HDTV. I guess the only difference between setting video aspect ratio from 16:9 to 4:3 will be time and appearance?

  4. Video source interlaced.
    Bottom Field first.
    Source aspect 16:9 NTSC 525 line.
    Video arrange, keep aspect ratio 2.
    If you want it full screen on your HDTV widescreen (true 16:9) then on the screen shot above, just change aspect ratio from 4:3 to 16:9
    If it's truly widescreen, then it will appear fullscreen if you set it to 16:9 on both tmpgenc screens. If you set source to 16:9 and aspect to 4:3, then it should appear letterboxed (black bars on either side) on your widescreen, but it will appear normal on a normal 4:3 TV.
