  1. I'm in the UK have sent DVD-R's to people in New Zeland, Begium, Norway, Denmark, Canada and America

DVD's are Region 0 and 'Pal', Every customer has been able to play them without a problem.
But my friend in New Jersey says he can't play them. Ive tried about 12 times and each time he says it won't work

Ive tried all the following in both DVD-R and DVD+R each time

    'Region Free' Pal
    'Region 0' Pal
    'Region 1' Pal
    'Region 0' NTSC
    'Region Free' NTSC

and now he's had my my latest attempt = Region 1 NTSC and STILL he says it won't play

WHY NOT!!! 2 other customers in Canada had no problems with 'Region 0 - PAL' but this guy says its still not working and just wants me to do it on VHS

but thats old fashioned and time consuming. If his 3 players can still tell its a european disc even tho ive burnt it Region 1 'NTSC' then Im worried about AI on dvd players
DVD region settings are a joke, I can't believe how stupid people are falling for it

You burned it as NTSC or actually converted it to NTSC ??
What are the make & model of his player's ? I'm assuming they are all standalone because a dvd-rom on a pc should not have any problem.
& if they are still in pal format his players prob. can't convert pal to ntsc even if they are region 0. What program are you using to make them diff. region's or make them NTSC ?

Try different media. some media with some players and not others.

It would be useful to know exactly what dvd player (make & model) your mate has.

There are some first generation dvd players that cant play dvd-r's at all.

Yes, the mpeg as to be encoded to NTSC specs - I think (depending on authoring app) you can take PAL mpeg and tell the athoring app that you want a NTSC DVD, but that won't work.

  7. His 1 TV player is Sony and his PC dvd is Dell but every time he says it would'nt play on either and Yes the disc has been 're-coded' as NTSC

Its really annoying me now, becuase he just says don't send me DVD's they won't work.. and he just doesn't want to 'get into the DVD region free' thing But WHY???? its a pain for me to do stuff on VHS and when Im going out buying 'tapes' just for him and everyone elese has DVD's from me.. Its annoying you know.

Its never been a problem the other way round. I can play ANYTHING
PAL/NTSC, any region and overide RCE even. I have no problems with it at all

Does he get an error when he tries to play it ?

If it (the Sony player) reports a C:13:00 error, it's a generic error message relating to the pickup not being able to read the disc. The workshop manual describes this as a "dirty disc", but the truth of the matter is a lot of Sony players are fussy buggers when it comes to recordable media - mine is one of them !

  10. Tell him to try each of the DVDs you sent him on different DVD players. Have him try it on different friend's players and so fourth. It's probably his player that is very quirky. I know that my player (Mitsubishi DD-6030) doesn't play certain things that other or newer players do. It does play standard NTSC DVDs, but nothing PAL. If he tries a different player I'm sure it should work.

  11. The only "R" that my 6 year old Toshiba will play is a "+" bitset to "DVD-ROM". That's why I flashed my Pioneer 108 w/ Piodata firmware and only use that player in the bedroom. Maybe that would work (if you are even able to set the booktype on your burner).

easy answer - refund his money, and don't sell to him any more.
