  1. Hi Guys

I hope I am not going to completely humiliate myself here....
I have quite an old TV which is square and not wide-screen
All my captured family DV's have been convereted to 4:3 DVD so I do not get the annoying black borders.

    So far so good.....

I have noticed that when I play a 16:9 DVD (A proper movie...) on my DVD player I can not change the aspect ratio via my player.. Even if I do, I can not get rid of the black boarders all together, in other words - fit to screen. For future I would like to be able to switch between the two ratios at will.
Is ther a way to create (auther) a DVD from my captured home DV's which will allow me to switch between the two aspect ratios?

    Thanks for looking!

If the DV is 4:3, then no. You can crop then to make them appear 16:9, but you will need to spend a lot of time if you want it to look even remotely OK. To get a 'fit to screen' type effect you need a player with a zoom function. Many movies are shot much wider than 16:9, so you get black bars top and bottom. This is normal, and as it should be. To get rid of them you will have to zoom in and chop off the ends.
