  1. Hi ! Please help i´m a newbie and i really tried to read everything on this forum but now my head is spinning around....

I needed to re-use an old s-vhs tape i had so i took my camcorder home to a friend and used his sony dvd recorder and made a HQ ( 1 hour) movie out of the old material on it.

Now i want to be able to do some simple editing to this material. With windows video maker or an old adobe premiere i have.

1.What program should i use to make these .vob .ifo .bup files to something an editing program could use?
I downloaded tmpgenc plus 2.5 but i dont see how it should read the files.
I tried with a program called DVD to VCD AVI DivX Converter but this made the picture more like letterbox.

    2. What are these different files and folders, .vob .ifo .bup and video_ TS AND VIDEO_RS ? wich one should i use?

3.What program for putting it back to dvd. Or is svcd a good format enough for s-vhs ?

    4. (embarrasing question) What is a codec and how do i get one?

If someone culd answer tese quetions or recommend a thread that answers them i would be happy.

    Friendly regards Martin

  2. With the sony dvd recorder it is sometimes required to use finalise to be able to transfer the files from the dvd to pc., you have to do this on the dvd recorder.

It would depend if you use a -R or +R disk, with the sony, it offers you the menu option if the disk requires finalising and not if it doesn't <g>.

You then use tmpg enc (I think) I have the non-free version, to transfer the , what will be a mpg, file from the disk.

You see you need to get a workable file from the disk and the vobs etc I do not think will be editable.

Lots of folks get frustrated at not being able to get dvd files from recorder to pc, and I beluieve it is usually becaue they have not finalised the disk.

Depending on software it can also be due to the fact that the dvd was recoded on the recorder as dvd-video rather than dvd-vr.

    Hope I have helped/

  3. No it´s not the finalizing that is the problem, it was at first, but now it is that the files are .vob and so on....

What is the difference between dvd-video and dvd -vr ?
    Thanks anyway Martin

  4. Rip the DVD with DVD Decrypter into Elementary Streams , this way you will have 1 Video File and 1 Audio File . Then convert the Video to AVI for editing becuase I'm not sure adobe premiere will import Mpg files without a Plugin.

  5. In DVD Decrypter make sure to set the setting to "NOT SPLIT FILES" not sure if it will when you rip Elementary Streams I'm sure it wont,But to be safe.
