Hi, I burned a dvd+ (Fuji) movie, it plays fine in my pc, mintek player and my gateway. I took over to a friends and it got the "no disc" error in both her Sony and Apex players! Any clues? Should I reauthor? I use dvdshrink and tmpgenc author. which one is more compatable with most players? Should I use another burning prgm? Could it be nero 6? info and views appreciated!

I can see a Sony spitting it out...some of those players hate everything "R"...but the Apex?....strange.

i do you mean in nero to select dvd-rom iso, dvd rom iso/udf, dvd-rom udf instead of dvd video? which one?

ej, only some burners can do bitsetting. PLEASE put your burner in your user profile, that way it'd be easy for us to tell you whether or not you can do bitsetting.
P.S. - no, none of the stuff you mentioned above applies to bitsetting. -
ej,
What dvd drive are you using? Some can be bitset and some can't. I have a pioneer dvr-108 that "offically" can't be bitset but with aftermarket firmware can. I also have a external Mad Dog, which is nothing more than a NEC 3500, that came with a utility for turning bitsetting on and off. Bitsetting dvd+r's to dvd-rom increases the compatibility with most dvd players. So, back to the original question. What is your dvd writer? Then we can tell wether you can bitsett or not. -
I don't believe this drive can be bittset, by the quick search I just did. I would suggest that you get a new drive. They are getting cheaper by the day. My external Mad Dog, which has been nothing less than fantastic, was only $70 after a $30 mail in rebate.

Your drive is outdated. The Sony players are quite picky, but the Apex you'd think would play it, which makes me wonder if it is the media itself for sure. Either way, I'd consider getting a newer drive that supports both +R and -R as well as bitsetting. Another problem is these older drives like yours sometimes don't do a good job with newer, faster media, as the firmware isn't optimized and isn't familiar with the newer media. I'd suggest a NEC 3520 first, you can buy one for about $60 shipped on Newegg.com.

how much space did your video take on the disc? Was it less than 1gb? If so, then check when you burned if you left the disc "open", or if the disc went through a "fixating" stage -- to burn up to at least 1gb of data.

hey thanks for all your help, the burner is in my HP zx5060 laptop which I've only had since xmas. Yes, the burner is finiky, I had to reinstall xp and its hit or miss with the burn errors ever since. It worked better before I reinstalled xp, i suppose I screwed something up. I updated the bios and the firmware for it. Yes, the dvd was pretty full. Would the authoring program I used have any effect on compatabily?

there are a few apex dvd players that are not able to playback DVD+R. APEX 1201 & 600. my friend contacted liteon regarding his standalone dvd recorder and was told there are 2 APEX models that can not playback DVD+R media. my friends 1201 can not even playback DVD+R media that has been burned with BITSETTING.
are you sure you're burning the disc in nero in the DVD-VIDEO mode? It should be burned in that mode. are you backing up dvd movies or authoring mpegs that you've done then using nero to burn? if you're using dvdshrink to back up dvds i would recommend you turn off the BURN WITH NERO in DVDSHRINK. let DVD SHRINK do it's thing then open up NERO to burn after DVD SHRINK is done. -
the apex is a new 27" dvd/tv (2715 i think) combo and the sony is s360. I typically use dvdshrink then nero 6. but sometimes when i rip, shrink can't open it so i use dvd decrypter then reauthor with shrink. I think maybe the dvd was not finalized, its looks pretty full, but why would it just play ok on the mintek and gateway & laptop?! I just tried the nero express, theres a "verify the data on the disc" option i sleected, maybe that will help. Also i read other posts that say to use dvd decrpter for a burner instead of the buggy nero 6. this dvd has 4 bup files and seems like alot of chapters, could that make a dif?

So I think everyone is telling you it's probably not the authoring program but how you burned it or maybe the media you used. Try the "video file" mode in Nero and it will finialize it as a default.

If everything else fail use CloneDvd,from my experience,it will work on
almost all players, even the picky Toshiba & Panasonic...
Ive been using a old NEC1100 from Dell for the longest while using plus
Media,no problem so far...
My friends in South America hav some Fwak up player and it works,
and i taught Sony was bad

well, I burned a new one (dvd+r Teon at 2.4x) and used dvdsrink reauthor and then burned it with tmpgenc author. (it finalized it) its pays perfect on the gateway and the mintek, but still "no disc" on the sony s360 dts and the Apex Digital GT2715DV combo. I've pretty much given up on the sony, the apex however plays another film on dvd+rw! but not dvd+r! I called Apex, they said it should play dvd+r. Any other ideas? grrrr

another question..the sony Model: DVP-S360 website says its coded for only region 1. I don't know anything about region codes, but could this be the problem???
-
Just to enlarge upon what Budz said: My Apex 1200 will NOT play DVD+R, but will play DVD+RW no problem. DVD+Rs bitset and burned on my BenQ do play, however. Why not just go with DVD-R or get a new drive, as suggested? Good luck.

Hi,
Can somebody guide me how to fit more than one hour video on a 4.7 GB DVD-R,as is normally done in commercial movie DVDs. Only one hour of our home videos fill the one full DVD-5.
If somebody can guide me?
I am sorry if i have broken any model of conduct of this forum. This is my first question to a forum. -
Yes, you have. You've hijacked a thread. Start a new thread for a new question, and give it a describing title.

(To answer your Q: 1) Commercial DVDs can store twice as much as regular (single layer) writable DVD. 2) Encode at a lower bitrate to get more video in a given space. Guides? Found left.)
