    which dvd-authoring tool is better, TMPGEnc DVD Author 2.0 or DVD-Lab Pro?

    It depends what you mean by better.... TMPGenc DVD AUthor is easier to use while dvd-lab pro has more features.

    They both have trail version. Get it and judge for yourself. It all depends how much you want in flexibility.

    the one that use less system resources, doesn't litter windows system folders and registry.. create DVD-standard compliant DVD

    They both will do that.
    With DVD Lab you have to know what you put in. It does not hold hands.

    As far as I can see, the newest is 3.1. This on is compatible with Vista and have some other export formats.

    I know that v3.1 is newest, but it have a lot of unnecessary stuff, has grown in size

    I do not know what do you expect, but if the software adds features it will grow. Also if it is made more user friendly.
    DVD Author is still only DVD authoring software wit basic edit features, unlike, for example Nero, which incorporate all kind of editing(sound, video),recording, burning, data processing and other features.

    Siluet -- none of us can read your mind. We don't know which features are more important for your specific purposes. Like Tinker, I also suggest you go to the Tools section of this site and look through the various DVD authoring programs. Many have free trial periods, and there are a few that are absolutely free. Try them out and see what works best for you. All DVD authoring programs listed on this site are designed to create DVD-compliant DVDs.
