  1. Question:

I have one of those Lite on 5007 DVD+ burners and I'm using HP disks right now. Yet my computer is old. I only have a Pioneer DVD ROM Drive and a Plextor CD burner in it. I wanted to take a bit of video off of the the +R disk from the Lite on and put it on the computer hard drive. After tying 4 DVD rippers none of them work. If anyone has a Light on, a Light on 5007, or uses +R disks for that matter. What do you use that rips the video from a Lite on 5007 +R burner?

P.S. I tried DVD Decrypter, DVD Toolbox, and a couple others. Also, it does rip -R disks from the DVD-ROM just not the +R.

I have a LiteOn LVW5005, and I use Ulead DVD MovieFactory 3.0 (or DVD Workshop) to import from DVD+RW discs (that I use for recordings).

  3. Well, I tried the MovieFactory 3 and for some reason it didn't work either. In fact, there was so many choices I really didn't know where to look or didn't see anything that took it from the dvd to hard drive but I tried what I could and it still didn't work. What are use suppose to choose for a simple dvd rip to hard drive?

I also tried Pinnacle Studio 8 as well as Vegas Video, Video Factory 2 and they didn't work either. I have to look for that DVD Workshop you mentioned.

I also tried moving from HP disks to TDK disks and it's the same.

Decrypter reads the disks with TONS of sector errors and stops reading it. Most either crashes the computer, doesn't work at all or says the disk is corrupted.

I guess maybe my Pioneer DVD ROM drive might be too old to read the +R or maybe Light on is using some funky encoding thing that just can't be picked up by my ROM drive.

  4. Silly question, but I have to ask you anyway.
Did you remember to finalize the DVD on the LiteOn before inserting it into the computer?

  5. Yes, the disks are all finalized.

It's just funny that it can read the -R disks but not the +R; or at least the -R from the two companies I have -R burners from but not the +R from the Lite on.

  6. This is very odd. I just now decided to try out one of my Memorex +RW disks w/ Decrypter and son of a gun it worked -- with no problems at all. It can read and rip +RW disks but can't rip finalized +R disks. That's odd.

I would say your problem is the old Pioneer DVD-ROM. I had similar problems with an old Toshiba drive. If you do a bit or searching on-line, or even locally at computer stores, office supply stores and mass-merchandisers like Wal-Mart and K-Mart, you should be able to find older 4x or 8x DVD burners cheap. I highly recommend you get one.

The problem is not the DVD drive, but your WinXP OS.
Try ripping on any Win2000 PC - it will not experience this problem
