  2. there should be a read me the nils patched firmware.
if not then go to www.rpc1.org,and read up on it.
the 1.14 one is the best IMO,overall,1.18 slows some discs down and gives poorer results.
and use dvdrflash to flash it.

I have recently purchased a Pioneer 108D (OEM) and flashed the drive with F/W from Gradius v1.18 and the burner is working like a charm.

    Goto gradius.com and download the file DVR-A08/108D drive into a true DVR-A08DX/108DX, (support DVD-R @ 16x max and DVD-RW @ 4x max)

After unzipping the files (3) place them in the Folder bearing your name in the Documents and Settings Folder, then goto "Command Prompt" and type the following statement:
    c:\Documents and settings\your name\>dvrflash -vf X: R8150008.110 R8150108.118

In that statement "X" represents the drive letter of your burner, take care and type the command exactly as written .... be aware of the spaces.
