  1. Does anyone know of a product (pref. Free) that will convert xvid/divx (avi Files) to a DVDr Format without having to go through the lengthy recode process? I have tried SVCD2DVD however, I can not get a working copy. ChrisyBoy has done everything humanly possible in order to help me however, I still can not get his product to work on my machine. Thank you in advance for any assistance you may have.

  2. Uhm....You are going to have to re-code your avi files to mpeg2 to get them on DVD. There is no way around it. SVCD2DVD is used to to put SVCD mpeg1 files onto DVD. Get ready to encode!

  3. I don't think it's possible without re-encoding.

  6. Thanks for all the responses members. I appreciate them all... Here's a tag from the SVCD2DVD page... What am I getting wrong?

SVCD2DVD is a "one click" VCD or SVCD to DVDR with menus software.

It automates the process of creating DVD-SVCDs and DVD-VCDs: putting VCD and SVCD content onto DVD without re-encoding video streams.
Version 2 also supports AVI/DivX/XviD to DVD, PAL to NTSC, NTSC to PAL framerate conversion and much more.

Without reencoding is only for the VCD and SVCD format in svcd2dvd. AVI/divx/xvid will be reencoded.

Buy a divx/xvid player or build a htpc if you are tired of converting.

  8. Once again...you have neither a vcd nor an svcd file to put on a DVD. You have an avi file! This will need to be re-encoded to an mpeg format. Either encode it to vcd specs or svcd specs, then you can use svcd2dvd to change the headers of the file for play in a DVD player. Better yet, since you have to re-encode it anyway, encode the avi file to DVD specs and bypass svcd2dvd altogether. You can NOT play an avi file on a run of the mill dvd player unless it is made to play avi files! Sorry, there is no way around your problem.

Yes. I agree with this. If you have lots to do that is, then I
would get one of these divX devices, and then get a dvd recorder
and have you milk and cookies, and make a bunch of dvd's from
this process. But all this will cost you $$$ dollars.
    .
Actually, the above is really just for someone who by chance, might
already have the both of them (units) and the suggestion would be
a valid one at that. The above is really a good idea if you already
have this setup or at least a divX player unit (cause you can always
pick up a cheap dvd recorder at wal-mart) and enjoy the ride.
    .
But, if you don't fit this catagory above, and you don't have a lot
of these to do, then you may as well just go through the re-encode
route in the first place, and be done w/ it.
