  1. Some people say to download mmc 8.9, not 9.x versions.

What's the best mmc & driver version to use the Ati all in wonder rage 128 on my Windows Xp professional to have best capture quality?

If it is 128 PRO (Theatre chip), then the most you can do right now (that I am aware of) is to hack it for ATI MMC 8.7, which was the most stable recent release. It's a rather lengthy process, and requires custom files.

just thought I'd throw my 2 cents in here...

I have the exact same card, running under XP Home. I run MMC 7.7 to capture all the time, and the drivers that are running the card are the generic ones that came with XP. I have tried almost every combination of drivers, control panels, catalysts, and everything. My system just doesn't like anything but XP ones...
    just a thought

  11. I'm confudsed I haven't yet put the ATI card in my computer becouse I've buyed from a private person and it has been shipped yesterday... so I want to say what version to install (driver, mmc, catalyst...) on my Windows XP Prof SP2 to work the AIW properly.
It's the first clean installation of the card and I don't want to wrong.

    THANK YOU

  12. Just to increase your confusion (as mine) this is an interesting link:

    http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthread.php?t=33787490

where you can find information about installing MMC on AIW 128 Pro.
I would advice you to save a partition image, using Ghost or something similar, before starting anything.
You should be in the right moment to do it and test various MMC version, eventually recovering a clean installation.

    Hope it helps

I have the exact same card running on XP pro and I can only get the MMC 7.7 to work with my captures...the Library portion does not work with 7.7 only with 7.6.
I have tried all the MMC 8.x versions and the installer just stops when it gets to the "Preparing to Install" window....and then just disappears....strange.

  17. Have seen some claims of running 8.x on this card (I have 2 of them) but no verification on anything higher than 7.7. SFAIK most enhancements past 8.1 were to Easyview, and support for PCM audio cap and Divx, other codecs.

Used Catalyst drivers from ATI and their MMC and control panel, also see instructions at rage3d.com. Note the directions for doing removal after a failed installation, following these could save you a world of hurt.

Many forums mention using MMC 8.7 as the minimum for good quality captures - does the video quality actually improve over the 7.7 version? I am having ZERO problems capturing with 7.7 and I won't even bother upgrading if it doesn't buy me much....any suggestions.

THis guy must be alivin in Roma, Italian. Clean install, make a mistake. Use ATI's driver removal tools for a clean un-install.

Is it true that the MMC 8.7 version allows you to capture the same good quality using a lower video bitrate and still maintain good quality.
This is what I heard on another post. Is this true? I guess my question all comes down to video quality of the captured mpeg file. My goal, and probably eveyone's goal, is to maintain as close as possible to the original source quality - that's it - don't care about features/goodies/etc - just good video quality. That being said - does anyone know if there is a difference between 7.7 and 8.7 ??
    Thanks.

  22. 8.x have Videosoap and generally, the higher the version the better the quality, though 7.7 was a MAJOR improvement over older versions.

However, if you don't care about disk space, and only about quality, simply use the highest bitrate that you can use (such as 9Mbps).
