I joined this site to seek help.
On my very first post I received a warning.
When I requested a reason for the warning from the "warning giver"
I received no response.
When I requested assistance from a site ?????? "whatever his title"
I received no response.
So I'll try in here.
For "LORDSMURF".
If you don't have the balls, and the courtesy, to reply to a "why"
perhaps you should give up this "godly power"
Foe "STEFAN EDSTROM"
If you had no intention of making a decision on my request, why did
you bother to reply to my email, and ask who I was.
Obviously I am pissed, so if you feel the need to give me another warning
and bar me, so be it.
To all on here who could have helped me, I am sorry I could,nt have
learned from you all.

the warning you received very clearly states "You are in breach of the forum rules"
did you bother to take the time to actually read the rules for this sites forums?
from reading your post, I know exactly why you received the warning, and I've only been an active poster here for about 2 weeks
i've seen plenty of other people "get away" with the same thing, you just happened to be unlucky enough to be spotted
read & heed the rules and you shouldn't have any further problems"To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism; to steal from many is research." - Steven Wright

How picky are they about the rules ... well ...
Smallville is broadcast on open air ... and can be picked up on an antenna.
I missed the show for some reason .... perhaps it was Star Trek : Enterprise ... it's been awhile since this happened and I'm not sure which TV show it was ... but I really didn't think talking about these type of videos would matter.
And I too ... didn't get my original question answered either.
And now I've got ... "one" ... gold square next to my name when I post something.
I sure didn't think talking about downloading a TV show that can be obtained free by just turning on the TV and hitting the record button ... would be taboo.
But ... I do see why you got in trouble for mentioning how you got Hondo.
That is a NO NO ... and to mention it here is not good.
The GODS in Hollywood will get really upset if we at DVDRHelp talk about how to process a movie that was obtained without buying it.
As for problem ... send me a PM message.

lacywest,
The rules are there for the protection of both the members of this site and of VideoHelp itself. The downloading of TV series has been discussed privately and has been judged to be too controversial and borderline for VideoHelp.
You recieved your formal warning because you downloaded copyrighted material. It is available on DVD - if you want it, go and buy it. If you are want a TV showing, then capture it off the air. It's really very simple - you even said so yourself!

a simple matter of thinking before you 'speak'
instead of saying "Downloaded a movie- Hondo w/John Wayne.avi "
you could just have easily said "I have a file""To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism; to steal from many is research." - Steven Wright
"Megalomaniacal, and harder than the rest!"

No ... that is not cool. You are setting up yourself for Karma ... and ... remember the saying ... what goes around ... comes around.
When it does come around to you ... it's too late ... Tag your it ... and you better hope no body knows how you really are ... because nobody will feel sorry for you ... oh a few will ... but only because they don't know the real you ... and your lying about the situation.
You sound like a power god ... choose better words to explain the situation and not sound like a executioner ... and you wont get tongue lashings so often. You can speak the rules here and punish accordingly but there is no need to sound like a robot.

My girlfriend just walked in ... she works at Corcoran State Prison #2
I told her ... what took place just now ... She said " What are they so jumpy for ?? ... "What are they selling that there not so supposed be"
She says ... it is not illegal to record shows for your own use.
My addon thoughts ... I missed the show I wanted to record ... and you say it is available on DVD ... those words are present tense ... DUH !! ... the show just aired last week ... and you say it's available on DVD.
Since when does a show air ... last week ... and be available on DVD ... 7 days later. NOT !!
So like I said .... choose your words better to explain something and not be so quick to judge. In other words ... this topic we are on does have a lot of grey area ... it is not black and white ... So don't treat me like I'm a criminal. I work with criminals five days a week ... I know what a true criminal is. Do YOU ??

I just have to wonder, because I see this alot...
Why do you keep arguing with a moderator? Regardless of whether you THINK he's right or wrong, he's the one with the power and is therefore right. Arguing will only get you banned. If you truly do not understand the rule or why a warning was issued, PM the moderator that issued the warning and ask. They are far less likely to get annoyed with a PM than they are with a public challenge, and annoying them will ultimately bring you under close scrutiny, (may not be right, but it is human nature).

@ lacywest:
Firstly, YOU can believe what you want and if YOU don't agree with the rules as set out, then there is no obligation for you to come here. Membership is voluntary.
However, if you do want to participate in the forums then we expect you to follow the rules.
Yes, your situation does seem to make sense (in the laymens' eyes), but it cannot be conscionably upheld by copyright laws (or fair use provisions) in most countries. If you don't like it, take it up with your local government representative not with us. We still have to work within a legal framework or else this site will be taken down very quickly.
You are coming pretty close to "advocating warez" in this thread. This is a friendly reminder. The rules are there for a reason and we expect you to follow them. If you don't, then expect to get a warning.

I have nothing against the rules ... really.
It's the rudeness of the moderators.
Oh ... awhile back ... my lady friend ... she is the assistant manager of the apartment I live in ... went to a vacated apartment to inspect the condition of the apartment.
She found a box filled with computer junk ... some non labeled DVD disks were in there. She tried to burn on them but they had already been used.
Well I'll be darn... they had some episodes of Smallville on them. They were in AVI format.
Quality was very good. But when they were opened with Virtual Dub ... the message popped up .... about a variable bitrate was used for the audio portion. And as the video played the audio was not synced with the video portion.
I really don't like those type of videos using a variable audio stream. Constant bit rates used in the audio stream are much nicer.
You are in breach of the forum rules and are being issued with a formal warning.
You were warned above. Your attempt at sophistry is neither clever or wanted. Do not advocate warez.

I was thinking there is something in the water.
@ gadgetguy Total agreement, well said.
ADDED-One additional thought. It doesn't ultimately matter what the LOCAL laws are to us mere members. The POLICIES and rules of the forum are what affects us and should be obeyed. The laws are the problem of the administrators and mods. This is a private forum. Baldrick can make any rule he wants, rightfully so.A good divorce beats a bad marriage.

These kinds of threads are nonsense. You break the rules, you get warned. It's not jailtime, amputation, or monetary fines. It's a "head's up" that you made a mistake that is in violation of the rules. In time, for good behavior, it'll probably be removed from your record. Should you press the issue, and repeat the offense, it'll just lead to more warnings and as our "friend" in this post found out, outright banning.
Simple as that.
I've seen and read just about enough of these things recently. You don't like the site? Leave! We have better things to do than argue, like expand site content and help people that ARE NOT breaking the site rules.
