I'm still messing with my new computer. I could do high speed RW before (10X) on my Plextor 10/16/40 drive, but with the "upgrade" now it doesn't recognize the drive as having high speed RW capabilities. I have tried 3 different CD burner programs and they all do the same things, so that's not it. Also, I thought about upgrading the BIOS on the drive, but when I run the Plextor program to do that it won't let me because it says I don't have the drive in question. However, it is correctly identified in Windows System area. BIOS settings are what the Plextor book says to use.

    Any suggestions?

I do not have an "Advanced Settings" tab on mine. I am using Windows 98SE with the Microsoft IDE drivers that come with it (which might be my problem). With Win2000 I ca use Nvidia drivers which I hear are better.

I know, but since my doesn't properly recognize my drive, I can't load the BIOS update. The BIOS update program says I don't have the drive in question?? WTF??? It's like I'd need another computer to update the BIOS in the CD-RW.

No SATA here! And yes, I might try Windows 2000 sometime. I probabyl would have already but I'd like to keep Windows 98SE as long as I can because it's so much simpler to fix. And another thing I like about Windows 98SE is that it's usually real easy to spot and remove viruses manually. If I "upgrade" to XP or Windows 2000, I might have to run some antivirus software, which wil, for the most part, make my upgrade pointless since that stuff loads down your system so much. I might try a dual boot thing where I only havd CD writer software and scanner software on 2000 and do everything else in Windows 98SE....

    Update:

Tried Windows 2000 and got it to work, but other things not working in Windows 2000 (internet connection sucked, still no scanner, and could not load monitor driver .inf).

So I reformatted HD, reinstalled Windows 98SE and combo patch, then loaded up most recent version of Nero and it works now. Cleaner install than last time (no EZ Cd creator or previous versions of Nero I gues helped).

    Still no scanner working though.
