Hi fellow Plextor owners:
Which printable -R media besides TY do you use? I am using mostly TY now, but I am trying to find a suitable alternative to TY when I need a white non hub-printable -R. And you all know how picky Plextor burners can be...
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

try posting the same question at the PLEXTOR FORUM at cdfreaks.com.
i don't call it picky media. i call it using recommended brands of dvd media that plextor supports.
why use other brands of printable when TY is recommended and supported by plextor.
-
Because TY will no longer make white non hub-printable -R discs. I want to use TY as much as possible; but when I have non hub-printable jobs, I don't want to keep resorting to use the silver TY printables.
(For the record, regular TDK was on Plextor's recommended list as well -- but my 712A couldn't make one single successful burn -- so I don't even want to try the printable TDKs.)

What was the TDK media code? If it was CMC that's your reason why you didn't get successful burns on your 712 drive. CMC is NOT ON THE RECOMMENDED LIST of DVD media that PLEXTOR supports. Media code, Media code is important not just the name of the brand when it comes to dvd media(For the record, regular TDK was on Plextor's recommended list as well -- but my 712A couldn't make one single successful burn -- so I don't even want to try the printable TDKs.)
TDK uses different manufacturers which CMC is one of them. If the media code is TTG01 or TTG02 then those are fine to use. Media code is what is important!
try using PRODISC i heard that some who have plextor drives have been successful in using the printables. -
Using TDK's from Circuit City show a TTG02 Media code for -R's.
I am using a 708A burner. No problems with the media.
Perhaps it is a firmware issue. Plextor recently posted a revision for the 712

His problem could have been that those TDK he used could be CMC media codes.Originally Posted by Leoslocks

I haven't had success with TTG02 and any of the five PX-712As I've owned. I just got two spindles from Circuit City today and tried about 5 discs with one success. Running latest firmware too. Drive burns YUDEN000T02 (at 8x and 12x), TYG02, SONY08D1, MAXELL001 (at 8x no less) and MCC003 (depending on the batch) just fine, so the drive isn't faulty. BTW, any TDK DVD-R made in Taiwan is made at the CMC plant regardless of media code.Originally Posted by budz
