I'm on the Newegg site right now looking at these drives which, from outside (Google'd) research, I find that they are exactly the same. Yet I find that the rebadged Sony is nearly $25 more than the Liteon (L: 60 & S: 84.99, for retail packages). I'm going to get the Liteon and it should bitset, correct?

I've got the 1633S. The Sony name adds to the price tag. Yes, you can change the booktype.

Thanx for the reply. I assumed it could change booktype seeing as how it's a Liteon drive. Since I'm curious to try out some DL burning of my own, that'd be very important. I already know that my Apex settop players (refitted w/ Toshiba readers) will play DL's since I borrowed some completed one's off friends (one w/ a Sony 700A & another w/ a LO832).
