I'm sorry if this is in the wrong forum, please feel free to move it if it is.
I have been doing research for a long time trying to figure out what the best way to go about making DVD's from the Mpeg2 files that I get from recording digital satellite through my WINTV250 PVR. I have heard that using a different program for every step (capture, edit, author). I know that I can use Pinnacle Studio 9 Plus to do the mpeg editing and authoring but how will the quality compare to using say...TMPGEnc Mpeg Edit and then authoring with something else. I'm eventually looking to spend $100-$150 on some solution that will do a superb job of both.

TMPGEnc and TMPGEnc Plus both have fully functional 30 day free trials - not sure about the MPEG edit or though - I'd say it would be the same. AFAIK Wintv250 outputs straight to MPEG, so you could just use something like MPEG-VCR or VIdeoRedo to edit the MPEG, then go straight to an authoring program, if you have captured at the correct bitrates, of feed it through an encoder, or later on through a transcoder if you wish.
    If in doubt, Google it.
