  1. I searched the site but couldn't find any posts about this.
I just purchased a Region 0 PAL boxset and the video is jerky or choppy. It smooths out for a few seconds and then becomes jerky again, especially noticable in faster motion areas. Has anyone else had this problem? None of my other PAL discs have done this so far. Is the 642 known for doing this with some discs?
I'd like to hear if anyone else has had this problem.
    Thanks

  2. I had the same problem with this player. My PAL dvd picture quality was horrible, and many of my movies froze at certain points.

I returned the player and got a second one, only to have the same problems, with the same movies, at the exact same points.

I purchased a cyberhome 300 for about $35, and it has so far played all my PAL movies flawlessly, and the picture quality is much better than with the Philips 642.

Although there are a lot of good reviews for the Philips 642 (which, is the reason I bought this player in the first place), I didn't have much luck with it.

From my experience, the cyberhome has been a much better player in regards to PAL movies, for about half the price.

  3. Thanks Jim... I bought mine last year and haven't had any problems until now. At the time, I was choosing between the Cyberhome 300 and the 642. This gives me reason to get the 300 now, plus i've always wondered how it performed anyway. It's cheap too.
