This is a very newbie question....

Instead of using VHS tapes, I want to record TV shows on my computer then transfer to DVD or VCD to watch on my TV later. No fancy authoring needed, just a transfer so I can watch it.

Is there an easier way to do this? Right now I:
    a) Capture MPEG-2 with my ATI All-in -Wonder card (using MMC 9.02),
    b) Open it in TMPGEnc and de-multiplex it under MPG tools,
    c) Use DVDAuthorgui to make a .iso file,
    d) Use Nero to burn the .iso file on a DVD.

Do I really need to de-multiplex it or can I somehow burn it directly from the captured file to DVD? Also, can I capture it in MPEG-1 and burn it directly to a VCD?

And finally, if I use a DVD-R/W and re-record over the last show, how many times can I re-use the disk?

    Thanks!

you won't need to use the computer.

If you are going to view the file on a TV, don't deinterlace. Yes, you can capture as MPEG 1 and burn to VCD. OR, you can capture as 1/2 DI and burn it to DVD with probably no quality loss and a much smaller DVD file.

You can rewrite a DVD-RW probably 10,000 times. Depends on the RW.

If the captured video is DVD compliant, you can just burn it to a DVD-RW after authoring.

You wouldn't have to demultiplex unless DVDAuthorgui requires it. Not familar with the program.

I use TMPGEnc encoder, then TMPGEnc DVD Author.

What do you mean by 1/2 DI?

When burning to a VCD, do I just burn the MPG-1 file as is was recorded or do I need a special file strcture like a DVD?
