for a hard drive to be left in the plastic case its supplied in for 10 years could it develop bad sectors and fragments being on its own??

well - the bearings can dry up not being used ..

aah right, heard about the mouse in ya computer lol..
bearings drying up..i aughta plug it into pc once a month..would this happen on externals aswell??
Also im sorry to change the subject here but i feel guilty keepo flooding the forum, on a program called pinrite it keeps freezing now..it might be a bad floppy i dunno but it totally locks up.. -

you can boot spinrite (6) from a cd-r/w too.. if your floppy drive is bad, you can bypass it.
