I have the external HDD adapter:

and it works fine with :

which was from a broken laptop and works perfectly fine,
but when i connect this one( i took it from a dell dj jukebox[mp3 player] couple years ago):

my computer doesnt recognize it..any ideas why? With the bigger HDD i hear whirring sounds in the HDD but in
the smaller one its completely quiet...is there a problem with something internal??

specs on the smaller HDD :
    -4200 RPM
    -15.10 gb

go into 'my computer' under management and see if the computer recognizes the drive. the drive may have been specially formatted for the jukebox. if so a full format should take care of the problem.

^ yeah...it doesnt even recognize the smaller drive so i cant even reformat it...
with the bigger drive comp recognizes it and a "new volume" pops up in the HDD list but the smaller one does nothing.
    thanks for he suggestion tho.

If the drive isn't recognized by Windows, then it is likely dead. Any HDD that is functional should be recognized by windows, even if it is formatted in a way that Windows doesn't support. There isn't anything you can do except replace it.

  7. Have you gone to disk managment? I wouldn't expect it to show up im My computer if it has a proprietary file system or Linux for example. However if it is alive it will show up in Disk Management which is available by right clicking on My computer and choosing Manage then looking on the left side of that.

Also have you looked in Device manager to see if it shows up there?
