I always wonder if family members or people that have passed away are around us in our homes and stuff. When my Grandfather passed away in 1989, the few years after that I would feel like there was a prescence in our house. That has really been the only time I thought there was a ghost in the house.

Any similar experiences or have stories of friends with similar experiences?

Something very strange happened to me. My husband and I have a piano that belonged to his mother. The day she died my oldest son and I were the only ones at home. Cap and my youngest son were in Illinois with Caps mother. Anyway the night she died I heard the piano playing. Thinking I lost it , the following morning my son asked me if I heard music last night. It freaked me out! When Cap got home I told him and he asked me what was the song. I didn't know what it was so he played a tape his mother made of her favorite songs. The song I heard was on the tape. I never believed it before but I do now.

  3. I will be very controversial here. I do not believe in ghosts. Consciousness and personality arise from the electrical activity generated in the brain, as bundles and networks of neurones interact. Once you die, it is lost forever.

Just as you did not exist before you were born, you will not exist when you die. It is oblivion, and completely unimaginable to the human mind.

Not knocking anyone's beliefs here - I could well be totally wrong. Just saying, I have an extremely pure and clinical view of the world. Paranormal and magical activites are not a factor.

That just totally ruined my day. The may just be the most depressing thing I've ever read on this forum.

  5. Like I've mentioned previously in OT, my university is built on and around an old mental asylum for the criminally insane.

Whilst I haven't seen any "paranormal" activity I wouldn't want to be there by myself late at night.

Now that's just creepy...really. What would it take to get you to go exploring late at night by yourself in an area where you would be all alone?

  8. Last semester my friend and I spent a lot of late nights on campus doing cramming and finishing up assignments and its just creepy when you go to leave at 3 or 4am in the morning.

The university has that old architecture feel to it and its built on a hill so it just gets blanketed in fog so you can hardly see a thing. It'd be the perfect setting for a horror movie. Across the road is an old cemetary as well.

What would it take for me to go exploring by myself? A shitload of money. On top of the hill is the old hospital that isn't open to students and hasn't been renovated like the other buildings. You'd never catch me up there at night.

So I take it the old hospital is abandoned then? That would be a perfect place to shoot a documentary on ghosts. MTV had a show like that some years back maybe you could do the same?

  11. Here's what the campus looks like in the day (not that spooky):

and a small pic of the hospital which doesn't do it justice:

I thought about making a documentary which was half ghost hunter/half historical look at the site but really never got around to doing anything about it. I also thought about doing ghost tours at night but again, nothing ever happened due to my lazyness.

Hey that would be pretty cool. That would actually be something I would be interested in doing but too bad you're in Australia and I'm way over here in the US in Ohio.

Yes, sounds like a plan. Hell let's just hold our OT reunion or union there.

I believe in the spiritual nature. Have had an experience I won't go into. My older brother has also had an encounter. There are certain things I understand and believe in regarding this, but I do also believe that there is a larger number of freaks out there that are messing with people. I've visited 4 places that are found on 2 different lists. One list was created by the United States government after having thorough investigations. The other was created by a well known world haunting investigation unit based in Italy. I thought it'd be cool to see some of these places. One place for certain I will never go see again. I saw The Grudge in theaters. The Grudge is like Barney & Friends when comparing it to the feeling I had in one of the buildings.

What kind of feeling was it? I take it it wasn't all warm and fuzzy.

Never personally had any experiences of a "tangible" nature, but I have had strange feelings. This thread made me think of John A. Keel's "The Mothman Prophecies". This book is chock full of experiences of a paranormal nature. Keel claims to have spoken to several beings "not of this reality". This may all be the ravings of a mad man, but interesting reading.

As a scientist,I feel that these abberations cannot be truely measured/confirmed with existing technology. I believe they are glitches in the space-time continuim. Dimensional rips if you will. There are a ton of theroies on a muti-dimensional universe. Who would have thought time travel was possible until Einstein proved it. What about the existence of atoms? There is still a shit load of stuff we dont know about nor can we even prove the existence of.

I read an article where thermograms were done on rooms in which "cold spots" were reported. These areas were indeed several degrees colder than the adjacent air with very defined boundries. These could not be explained by drafts, etc. When random number generators were placed within, they started kicking out series. Take them out-back to random

How many who dont believe in ghosts believe in extraterrestrial life?

You know what I mean. I 100% believe in the Holy Ghost, but not the ghosts of relatives that walk around old houses.

    Doc,

Life in other parts of the galaxy is a distinct possibility. Ghosts are not.

As I say, I'm not knocking anyone's beliefs here but I prefer cold, hard science. There has always been a time when phenomena could not be explained scientifically, but as research and therefore knowledge advanced these things always became understandable. It is just the same thing here.

The mantra "science can't explain this" won't wash with me. It can, but it is our current knowledge that limits our scientific ability to explain.

  23. I don't believe there are human spirits roaming the earth, but I do believe there are spiritual beings (demons & angels) around us. I believe there's an entire spiritual world all around us that we can't see.

I've been witness to some creepy stuff. I have a friend who used to be demon possessed. It was less than 6 months ago I think that she had an exorcism. I was there.

My little brother and 3 other guys were thrown from a car at 70 MPH on Monday night and all 3 were able to walk away without any broken bones or internal injuries. I believe 100% that if it weren't for the spiritual, they would be dead right now (if not dead then paralized).

  24. I have also experienced an event in my life where it could be considered that someone or something is "watching over me". It was unbelievable, divine.

However, I attribute it to a fluke set of circumstances allowing the propegation of a very unlikely event.

I hope (know) that's not what it is... If that's the case then my family must be prone to fluke sets of circumstances allowing the propegation of very unlikely events.

Me too. That is why I dont entertain any creationist theories. However,100 years ago cold hard science did not know of black holes. What hard evidence has been presented that refutes their(ghosts)existence? If someone suggests to me that our universe is a sub-atomic particle in another universe's matter, I dont feel it is impossible. I just wouldnt agree with it until it was proven.

could be.. or it could be that, like many other people, you tend to focus on false positives in coincidences, and seek a pattern in them.

on a related note, for an example - you're thinking of someone, and the phone rings, and it's them! you must be psychic - you "knew" they were going to call.

what you don't think of is all the times they called when you weren't thinking of them, or the times you were thinking of them and someone else called. It's human nature to focus on the hits, not the misses, and find a pattern in them.

could it be that some of your phenomenon is similar? a cold draft when you're thinking of late Uncle Charlie is the same cold draft you felt when you weren't thinking of him, but it didn't have the same resonance, so you've forgotten one and ascribed more meaning to the other.

    Hello,

I'm wishy washy on the subject.

Though I don't think there are GHOSTBUSTER type ghosts out there I don't doubt there are "spritual afteraffects".

But I like DR GEE's ideas about not knowing the science behind phenomenon. There is SO MUCH out there we still don't have a clue about.....
