I was just wondering what everyone does with their empty cakeboxes. I assume many are like me have stacks of the things just laying around.
Are they usefull after their main use (storing blanks) is done? I was thinking of building a cakebox castle, but quickly rejected that idea.![]()
Does anyone buy these things up in bulk? Can I get more than a quarter out of each?
For now, I think I'll use the tops. I'll turn them upside down and put poppourri in them for my smelly basement!

They hold all my Prodisc coasters

I actually use mine for storing my TV series that I had recorded onto VCDs.
(Quite a few, actually.)Whatever doesn't kill me, merely ticks me off. (Never again a Sony consumer.) -

Use them to fix wobbley chairs and tables? Stack them high enuff and use as a nice foot stool? Use em to keep your mega collector's edition AOL discs in primo condition?
The possibilities are endless

Loose change, screwdrivers, guitar picks, receipts, and everything I don't know what to do with. The cover, of course.

My dog has fun rolling them around :P
Some people say dog is mans best friend. I say that man is dog's best slave... At least that is what my dogs think. -
I fill my empty ones with different snacks to serve at parties.

i usually store all my muzik cds in them and stuff... because i run outta room. otehr than that they just lay around or in my closet.

Looks like everybody has a use for them ... but I've got a use for them ... not listed.
I'm using them to keep my Mini-DV tapes in ... like little mini - buckets -
I have a few of them lying around, hoping to someday find a use for them. I just have one filled with AOL cd's, coasters and other useless CD's. I hope to one day cover my walls in these cd's in some kind of fancy pattern.
Does anybody actually throw out their cake boxes? or their coasters for that matter -

i get rid of them every once in awhile, cause i get too many and stuff.. my coasters i used to put a lighter to them and get a section of them gooey and push it onto another coaster and make kool sculptures lmao

tsantsa,
I hope you don't mind if I add a second
part to your post.
If everybody has empty cakeboxes, what
are they storing the discs in?
I was using the full size jewel cases.
Then I switched to the slim
jewel cases. Now I ordered a lot of
paper sleeves. They will take up
a lot less space. The discs won't be
viewed very often so the sleeves
should hold up okay.
The sleeves might give some added
protection against bright light too.
I have a ton of jewel cases and it's
hard to keep them in the dark all the time.

I have about 10 of them left. When my tire blows out these are what I use as a spare, untill I get my OEM tire fixed on my car

Protecting the underside when spraying the printed surface of CDs / DVDs...
There is some corner of a foreign field that is forever England: Telstra Stadium, Sydney, 22/11/2003.
Carpe diem.
If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much room. -
Like daamon, I use them when I spray the topside of my printable discs. First, I cut the stem as low as possible, then I simply lay the disc over the stem and spray the clear protectorant. By using several of these empty cakeboxes, I can spray several discs at once. Just a note, since I started using this technique, I haven't had a single disc get spray on the underside.
Jim -
I generally use mine to give people copies of public domain movies I've downloaded or my captured material.
Just on a side note, how effective or necessary is the spraying ?I only ask because I've got a canon I865 and don't spray mine, and I've never had any issues whatsoever so it's just a bit puzzling to me, that's all
If in doubt, Google it. -
I used up a bunch of them the last time I did some painting. The lids are great to hold paint in.
