I have always ripped to HD with DVDDecrypter then recoded with shrink and burnt via NERO- option within shrink.
However everyone seems to bleet on about ISO mode.
Now I have read the guides and can't see any advantage cos I'm quite happy with my normal output.
I tried to create an ISO using DVDDecrypter, using MODE ISO READ, to see if it was any easier/better. I assumed this was the way to procede then use ISO Write to burn an image or then use shrink on the ISO and recode then burn as an ISO using Decrypter. I don't really understand this way though.
When I used Decrypter to ISO READ it would only read the files at 1x. So I just quit and thought what a waste of time and proceded in my usual way. My burner rips at 9.5x usually with Decrypter.
What am I doing wrong and what is the point in doing it as an ISO anyway.
    Regards

ISO read/write is for non-encrypted disks, like DVD-r's that you have made or data disks.

    Wrong.

Iso read/write is also for encrypted pressed dvds, but it is meant for SL (or double sided). The only reason you might use this on a DL disc is if you want to burn on a DL disc.

When I rip my pressed dvds, a whole 4.7gb is ripped in less than 5 minutes. ISO read mode, encrypted stuff.

    @koinhelgo
I think you got it a bit wrong.
If you are to use the ISO mode, it is to burn the ISO file you just created, not to rework it with shrink or other application, which is a typical DL application.

You can use dvd decrypter to create iso files of d/l dvds and get dvdshrink to open them and trancode to iso, saves on having folders with files.
    I think,therefore i am a hamster.

    I learned something new.

I guess the point for me would be that if a movie required shrinking then I would just use DVDshrink for the whole process, although I understand it sometimes has troubles ripping some disks.

I thought that was a good idea once. Then I ran into a couple problem disks and realized that if Decrypter can't get the whole disk in iso mode then you have to do the whole disk again. If you use file mode and it runs into a problem you don't have to re-rip the files it already got. So unless I have a reason, I usually just use file mode now.

If it is 1:1 I rip/burn in ISO mode, otherwise I always rip in file mode. DVD Rebuilder wont open ISos.

    Ok, a few thoughts:

    1. There is NO reason why DVD Decrypter should rip at 1x in ISO mode but close to 10x in file mode. That's just something wonky with your system.

    2. It's perfectly fine to rip in ISO mode. In fact I really prefer this. It saves on the number of files on my hard drive. I routinely rip DL discs to an 8GB image file, and then use Shrink or DVD Rebuilder on them, or mount them with Daemon tools.

    3. If DVD Decrypter runs into a problem ripping a disc... maybe you should have cleaned the disc before trying to rip it? I fail to see the logic in ripping in file mode just because you might hit a nasty scratch on Gigabyte 7 of 8. That's ridiculous. It's an extra 5 minutes - who cares?

I fail to see the logic in thinking I should rip in iso mode when the only reason you can give is "it will save on the number of files on my hard drive". For most disks, there's absolutely no difference in having a single iso file, or a single folder with numerous files.

It may only be 10-15 minutes, buy my time is more valuable than to completely waste even 10 minutes when the only reason is that "it will save on the number of files on my hard drive".

Got any better reasons that aren't ridiculous?

None that are especially relevant. ISO mode preserves a lot more of the original disc structure - not that it matters most of the time.

It also does less work, less processing. I just find that things go more smoothly that way.

I rip to ISO with dvddecrypter , read ISO with dvdshrink , output an ISO and burn with CloneDVD2

i havnt had any problems doing it like that and it saves on the number of files on my hard drive
