I am fairly new to the whole DVD ripping, decrypting etc scene and I just have a few questions for those that might be able to help. I have gone through the forum and have read some posts, although some do answer a part of my question, they dont answer it entirely. With that, my question/problem is as follows.
I have windows Xp and i am working on ripping a DVD to my hardrive and then i want to be able to convert it to WMV format. I have used the devrypter software and was able to save the files in my harddrive where i can play them. they appear as VTs files. I have tried to find a way to convert them to WMV and i cannot seem to achieve this. Someon recommeded to "shrink" the already decrypted files..when i do so, i come up with a "smaller" file sized movie but some how there is no audio? What is it that i have to do, to accomplish my goal? Is there any way to rip directly to WMV?
thank you for your time and for any help that you can provide.![]()

You go from DVD to MPG, then MPG to whatever.

Look to the left under convert . And welcome to the Forums -
Thank you for your reply (Sentinel) I read and used some programs on the link that you posted and tried an alternative way to get my "goal" achieved. What i came up with was the following.
1) I added Flaskmpeg to my pc and i first used flaskmpeg to directly open the DVD from my drive and "flasked it" well i found out quickly that the flasked file is about 1 gig and it only saves about 5 minutes of the movie. I tried to flask the whole movie but the more i flask and added jobs into the program, the more 1 Gig files i had on my computer making the whole movie about 16 gigs total in size. I read the instructions of the program again and so i tried another alternative.
2) I used DVD shrink and reauthored the DVD, then since the format is the VTS etc. i used the Flaskmpeg again, but came out with the same result. Although the DVD shrink file is about 5064mb the flask takes it and makes it 1 gig in size and only plays back 5 minutes. Arghhhhh...
My objective is the following, I have a Creative Zen media player which can hold up to 20 gigs, i currently have 12 gigs available, i just want to rip the DVd i have, and convert it to WMV, i don't care about the menus or any other special features of the dvd, all i want is the images and audio. What is the best way to achieve this and still have a good sized video file? Once again thank you for any help or suggestions. -
Use DVD Decrypter to rip and convert the files on disc to mpeg. Import into either MS movie maker or the MS Media Encoder available free on the MS site to encode to wmv.
