My DVD writer (hp 530i) does not want to burn 8x dvd-r or dvd+r media in the time its supposed to (7min 8x, 14min 4x) So my question iso the OEM versions of Roxio 7 and Nero 6 support 8x burning?

I don't know about Roxio, but Nero does, at least my version.6.3.1.17. When you say OEM, that usually refers to the the version bundled with the burner, and in that case, it should support any speed the burner is capable of. I use a retail version of Nero.
If your speed is much slower maybe your drive is not running in DMA mode. -
Thanks for the reply, my channels are allser to dma mode,as a matter of fact, its' ultra dma mode 2 i believe. Hum, is running other burning software causing my writer not to write 8x media.............?

OK, DMA was the obvious first choice.
How long does it take to burn a 8X disc? If it's taking 15 minutes or so, that would be a problem. My 8X takes a little less than 8 minutes to actually burn a DVD, not including encoding, etc., of course. This is transferring from my HD. If I am doing a DVD data copy from another drive, takes quite a bit longer.
Have you updated your burner firmware? (Though, it still should burn 8X with the standard OEM firmware for the drive.)
Have you tried different media?
It's possible other programs are interfering, but that would be unusual.
Have you tried running Nero DriveSpeed? It may give you some insights. -
Thanks again for the advice! But I have checked firmware upgrades and I have the most current. As for burning time it takes 40-30 mins to make a 4.gb DVD copy!! This happens only with 8x media, even at the reduced speed of 4x!!!! I have tried everything, even called HP tech support, and were not very helpful. They told me to use Sonic, the software that came w/drive, but still no changes (and not very good software). Oh well guess i'm going to have to buy the soon-to-be obscelete 4x DVD recordable media.

uninstall the ROXIO software.....if you have the OEM of NERO BURN uninstall it as well.....then download the NERO CLEAN TOOL from the NERO website.....use the clean tool to clean it out of your windows registry....then reinstall NERO BURN....ROXIO does cause some software conflicts.....what brand or media code are the dvd discs that you're using????????? use dvd identifier or dvdinfo pro to get the media codes......which will tell you exactly who is the manufacturer of those discs......example is MEMOREX uses many different manufacturers such as CMC, FUJIFILM, & PRODISC......so although the spindle may say MEMOREX the media id could be one of those i mentioned.....as suggested try using different media with your drive.....use like 8x speed MAXELL with media codes MAXELL002 for DVD+R, DVD-R MXLRG03, TAIYO YUDEN media codes TYG02, TY02......
