When I use the wizard in TMPGE Plus and open a DV file that I've captured, TMPGE doesn't do the "Checking field order" bit but opens the file and shows Non-Interlaced in the Video type window.

    Is this correct ?

    Thanks

    Hi scottb721,

How was the DV AVI captured?
What hardware / software was used?
Can you see interlace lines during playback?

No, it doesn't sound correct... (In my experience).
There is some corner of a foreign field that is forever England: Telstra Stadium, Sydney, 22/11/2003.

  3. It could be right. It's certainly possible for a DV AVI to be progressive (my camcorder has the feature). But TMPGENC can be wrong when determining the field order.

I'm using the Capture module of Ulead's MediaStudio Pro.
My camera is a Sony DVR-PC108E. The type that comes with the dock/cradle that you sit it in for charging and making PC connections.
I'll have to check about the interlace lines.

Try WinDV (Type 2 DV AVI). See if that has any effect...

I looked up the specs on various sites and couldn't find anything that says it records in progressive mode.

I should say to play on the PC - just in case it wasn't clear...

  6. Many players will deinterlace on the fly. Open the file in VirtualDub instead. You can single step through the video to check it out.

    Found the problem.

In the VFAPI plig-in window of TMPGEnc, "AVI2(open DML) file reader" had a higher priority than the Directshow file reader.

As soon as I put Directshow at the top, the wizard showed the file as interlaced and the resultant mpeg looked great.

Is nice when something gets resolved easily.

    Thanks for the input.

    Hi scottb721,

That would've been our next suggestion... Honest.

And thanks for posting back - it's good for others with the same problem.
