Remove the program from your system. well thats what I did
Big Government is Big Business.. just without a product and at twice the price... after all if the opposite of pro is con then wouldn’t the opposite of progress be congress? -
Or if you'd like to keep it and use it (as I suspect you do), you'll find a checkbox in the options screen:

Deselect this, and it won't launch on startup again. -
BTW Messenger is used by OE, if you remove it from your system or prevent it from loading OE may hang when you first open it. It also is used by other MS apps..... They are doing the same thing with messenger as they have done with IE. Embedding it so far into the OS that you need it for the OS to operate properly.

Even if you disable it loading like that it will still run in task manager from what I've seen. If you don't use it and want to completely get rid of it here is what you do.
Go to Start/Run, and type:
rundll32 setupapi,InstallHinfSection BLC.Remove 128 %SystemRoot%\INF\msmsgs.inf
Press Okay. might give you a message next time you start your PC about it being removed. Just click through that and you'll be good to go. -
You can disable it in the services, so that it will not run.Originally Posted by Poppa_Meth

The messenger service has nothing to do with MSNMessenger. The messenger service should be disabled anyway, unless you have a very specific reason for using it.Originally Posted by bazooka

I didn't mean to say you can't remove it but doing so my have adverse affects on some windows apps that require it like OE. From what I have read OE will function withpout it but you'll get the 20 second hang.... this isn't something I've seen or tested myself.Originally Posted by Dr.Gee
My point was that at one time you were able to completely uninstall IE too but that's impossible now. -
Ahh but the title is MSN Messenger :POriginally Posted by tekkieman
