Hello,
I have browsed this board on many occasions but I just registered.
I would like to first thank those who share their expertise with we who are trying to get a grip on this fascinating hobby.
I have many questions but hesitate to post them till I have had a chance to search the boards more.
I would like to know (I'm almost frightened to ask) how come there is little or no mention made here regarding Roxio CD/DVD Creator.
The program came installed on my Dell PC. I have been using it but at the same time I try to compare the steps I use in Roxio 6 to the suggested methods posted here. My hope is to become adept at using both methods to see which suits my needs better.
My main purpose is to bring the old home movie VHS tapes up on to DVDs.
Kindly straighten me out in regard the absence of Roxio posting here. I am sure I have missed something but not sure what or where. I don't want to be asking question regarding a topic that is being avoided.
My thanks again; Gumby

Gumby; Welcome aboard! It's true this site can be a little intimidating. But don't let it get to you. I am a newbie myself and I can say there are some very helpful people on this site. I also have the Roxio software and Ulead software. Both of which came with items I added to my pc. I have been using Ulead lately to transfer my home videos to dvd. My experience with Roxio is limited. If you do a search for Roxio you may find answers to your questions. My advise would be to read what ever manual you have on the software if you don't have any check out their website. Try small projects and experiment. Use RW disks at first so if you make a mistake you don't end up with a bunch of coasters. When you have a question be specific and I think someone will be able to help you. Burning dvd's can get very frustrating but keep with it. Good Luck

Thank you all for your comments.
I have been able to successfully produce a few DVDs already, using WMM, Roxio and Ulead. I am wondering about how to add the 'gingerbread' to a movie captured with the favorite programs mentioned on the board. The commercial products all seem to have that step covered fairly simply (transitions etc.) although with many shortcomings in each case.
I suppose the dive in and get wet theory is what needs to be followed here in my case. I feel more comfortable now knowing I can ask for response when making comparisons in various steps.
Thanks again,
Gumby
