    The CVD thread

This is the super-duper CVD thread, but I don't remember if they have sample template in there.

In general, this is what I use (TMPGEnc):
first of all, it is MPEG2, use the SVCD template or DVD template and change the settings

    Vidoe tab
    resolution: 352 x 480 (NTSC) or 352 x 576 (PAL)

bitrate: That is really up to you. I think some people won't go below 2000 kbs. I have gone as low as 1400 and the picture was acceptable for me, but that was for a movie with an aspect ratio of 2.35:1

Motion search precision: Again, this is up to you.

    Advanced tab
change the settings to what your source is.

If it is interlaced, make sure you have the right field order.

I like to use Full Screen (keep aspect ratio 2). How is this different from Full Screen (keep aspect ratio)? I don't know.

    GOP Structure tab
    I picture: 1
    P picture: 5
    B picture: 2

Max number of frames in GOP: 18 NTSC; 15 for PAL
check box for output bitstream for edit (Closed GOP)

I don't think you really need these if you keep as CVD; however, if you plan to author it on to a DVD, it will be helpful.

    Quantize matrix tab
    Leave it on default.

    Audio tab
Sampling frequency: 44.1 khz or 48 khz. You really can't go wrong with either one. If you choose 44.1 khz, your CVD should work properly on your DVD player (assuming it has no problems playing CVD at all). The downside is that if you to author on to a DVD later one, you will need to recode the audio to 48 khz.

If you choose 48 khz, there might be a chance that your DVD player may not play the audio properly, but if it does, if/when you author it on to a DVD later on, it will be ready to go.

    Channel mode: I use Stereo.

Bitrate: This up to you. 192kps is usually the lowest I would go, but I have used 160kps with acceptable results. Let your ears decide.

I'm hardly an expert, but these are the settings that I use.[url=https://www.videohelp.com/forum/images/guides/p1200613/[/url]]

I use 3 "B" frames, but the above settings are a good start. 224k audio, ESTIMATE search, and then 2000-2200 bitrate avg are more choices I make.

No need for templates when you can just learn the settings.
