Thought I'd posted this earlier but can't see so here we go again (Apologies if I've missed it).

Is there any DVD authoring software that allows you to create a home movie DVD with titles and chapters just like a commercial movie.

With dual layer burners/disc now available I'm sure there are lots of people with stacks of VHS home movies in the cupboard which would be better on DVD.

Whilst it's possible to put one tape to one DVD it would be better economically to put multiple tapes onto one disc. However, to do this it would be better to be able to setup titles and chapters so that the user has the option of either playing the disc straight through or going to individual scenes(tapes).

I've done a quick search but haven't been able to come up with anything.

Are you sure you mean authoring software?
If you do then select from those here.

Or do you mean all-in-one capture, encode, author, burn tools?

    Sorry if I wasn't clear.

I can capture my old VHS tapes to my digital web cam and then transfer from that to the PC.

Once I have the file on my PC I would then like to create my home movie DVD with titles and chapters for the reasons I have given.

  4. Again, there are a plethora of tools to do this, going from simple and free to complex and expensive, plus anywhere in between. I suggest you read the WHAT IS DVD section, then start looking at some guides and trying a few things.

    The basic steps are:-
Capture - you think you know how to do this, but are you going about it the best way.
Convert - or encode to be accurate - to DVD compliant mpeg-2.
Author - to DVD-Video stanrads. This is where you add chapters and menus, multiple movies etc.
Burn - commit your project to DVDr

What you want can be done, what you end up with depends on how much effort you want to put in to this.
