  1. I have WMV & RM videos that I'd like to convert to DVD and edit parts of them out, and create chapters and titles for. I can find software that will convert to DVD, but I haven't found any video editors that will create chapters/titles. This should be fairly basic stuff. Can you recommend free video editing software that fits the bill? (Win XP)

    TIA

WMV and RM are probably the single worst formats to edit or convert from.

Video editors edit video. They may also have title creation facilities. They don't create chapters.

Authoring tools create chapters and the final DVD structure.

For WMV, Windows Movie Maker is your best bet for editing and titles. It is free with XP. I would convert your RM files to either WMV or DV AVI and do all your editing in Movie Maker. While it is by no means a great program, there are very few free Non-Linear Editors for XP, and even fewer that work well with WMV and RM source. Output to DV AVI when you are done.

Use Xvid4PSP to create you video and audio streams ready for DVD authoring. It has presets to make it simple.

Finally, use GUIForDVDAuthor to create you DVDs with menus and chapters.

Total cost - nada but your time in learning some new skills.
