  1. On rec.video.desktop, some people are raving about the MPEG conversion quality of the new VV 3.0. One person said its as good as TMPGenc, but renders faster.

Does anyone from this board have this product? Have you compared the output, ease of use and versatility (xVCD, xSVCD, DVD, etc.) of VV3 compared to TMPGEnc?

    Thanks,
    Robert

    Hi Valnar (Robert),

I got Vegas Video 3.0 today and did some quick tests. Yes, the quality of MainConcept MPEG encoder is very good, almost as TMPEGEnc. It is easy to use, you can configure a lot of parameters. And it is twice faster.

    Regards.

  4. Kabanero,
Does it allow you to pick other resolutions and bit rates for DVD's? I know the default is 720x480 (or is it 704x480?), but I want to use 352x480 which should be a standard as well. I'm converting some VHS tapes over to DVD-R in the future, and I'd rather have more space than higher quality, which is wasted on a VHS source. Can you take the bitrate down to 5000 or so?

Please play with it more and post a review!! I only have until December 24 to buy it at the lower price, unless I find it on the net (we all have our vices).

There was another thread on this board where we talked about Vegas Video 3.0. With it you can rip a VOB to VideoCD in a much shorter time than TMPGENC. Some reports of 1.5 hours to encode 1 hour of video.

There are plenty of places to get VV3.0 for less than the MSRP... a LOT less. It is an outstanding program and worth the effort to track it down.
