    Hello,

I've been using Vegas for a while now and this problem has be stumped. I'm unable to properly import MPEG-2 video recorded by a Sony HDD (MPEG-2) camcorder. The problem is that the video files alone are being brought into the project without the audio stream. The video files opened fine with Vegas 7, and they also play with proper audio through WMP (etc.) so it seems that 8 is the problem here. Any thoughts?

What is the format of your sound?
I had a similar problem and it turned out to be that the sound was AC3 and I only had codecs for mp2/3 installed.

I used VOB2MPEG to stitch the VOBS off the DVD together onto the HD and then used Womble MPEGVCR to convert the sound (I know there are other ways but MPEGVCR also let's me cut ads stuff off tv)

There's probably something in the setup/options to sort it out as well but I'm lazy and can't be bothered to re-install to find out

Vegas usually supports mpeg 1 & 2 via a plug-in (which, in version 6, is the Main Concept MPEG 1 & 2 plug-in) which requires a separate "unlocking" procedure after purchase. Same thing applies with AC-3 support...AC-2, I don't know about.

If I was in your place, my first task would be to see if I could open the audio track in an audio editor, like Goldwave or Sound Forge...if so, I'd save it to wav format & use that for the audio.

Thanks for all of the replys...

I still haven't figured out the source of the problem, but since upgrading to Vegas 8.0b, the issue has been resolved.

    Thanks,
    T.

It seems Vegas 8.0b has a problem with audio tracks on video compositings. Some audio tracks (it doesn't matter if AC-3, WAV or MP3) stop playing after a few seconds. Somethimes the application crashes. Same thing happens when you render the timeline. This is probably a BUG - Sony is already aware of it.

Up grading to 6.0d will import the Audio. Getting it to play is another story.
