  1. I'm trying to backup a DVD using DVDShrink. I've done it before with no issues but for some reason this one isn't working. I'm using version 3.2 and when I select the DVD it begins the manditory analysis. With about 10 seconds left it freezes and then, about 1 minute later, gives me this message:

    Failed to read file

    Data Error (cyclic redundancy check)

So I checked the disc and it appears perfect... no scratches or anything of that nature. The disc plays fine in my DVD player too. Any idea why I am encountering this issue? Just to be safe I tried a different DVD and it worked fine.

    Thanks!

You should do a forum search for "cyclic redundancy check". There are already dozens of posts regarding this error.

  3. Try using a different ripping application or drive.

  4. Let me guess--the DVD is either "The Forgotten" or "Friday Night Lights". If this is the case, it is the Sony "Bad Sector" protection scheme.

Look in the forum DVD to DVDR for solutions to this problem.

  6. Use DVD Decrypter to rip the disc (everything) in IFO mode. Then use DVD Shrink like normal, but use 'Open File' instead of 'Open Disc'.

  7. For "Forgotten" I had "DVD Region + CSS Free" opened/enabled and then I used DVD Shrink 3.2 to shrink and dvd decrypter to burn iso image. Real simple. Guaranteed to work like a charm without any problems at all.

  8. to take a quote from mrbass.org website:

    DVD Shrink Encountered an error?
Sony recently introduced ARccOS - DVD-Video Copy Control ("face the creators of illegal copies with ARccOS copy control!" --- pleaseeeee) on some new dvds like Resident Evil 2 Region 1 for instance. To bypass this just rip with the new DVD Decrypter 3.5.2.0 (released Jan 5, 2005) to an .iso image then open the .iso with dvdshrink and process it. Also some other titles if you encounter an error in DVD Decrypter go to Tools | Settings | I/O tab then check Ignore Read Errors.

  10. I will second the post from bhutchins, this works no problem with all the new Sony discs I backed-up...RE 2, Little Black Book and The Forgotten.
dvd decrypter to an iso, then load the iso to dvd shrink and boom your backed-up

Well I guess that method doesn't work for everyone....
In my case, shrink chewed up all my memory before 50%
If I extra'd the iso, shrink wouldn't even load the whole during the first analyze...the trial version of anydvd worked in my case without any problems. May just buy it now as I find copy and pasting via explorer easier than ripping. BUT I still love dvd decrypter for burning all my ISOs
