The boys' parents said they thought the children should be punished by the school and families, not the legal system.
Yes, but that would mean that the families may have to pay attention to their children. We can't have that. -
Isn't that a bit of an overreaction?
Are we going to charge kids with a crime every time they draw a building blowing up or the president with an arrow through his head? :P Sheesh! -
led away in handcuffs at age 9 ! thats not right ..
conversely though - how would you feel if you were the parent of the boy who was threatened ?
There are mixed answers to this and its a complex issue on many levels going back to past cases and current policies..."Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
I voluntarily obstain from stating an opinion on this matter.

thought police -- now there is a concept i've never heard before ...

'...charged with a felony.' What felony is that?
Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore. -

Lets see, 9 years old.. that would be third grade right? and now charged with a felony. Wow when I think about some of the crap I did. It really seems so over the top
Big Government is Big Business.. just without a product and at twice the price... after all if the opposite of pro is con then wouldn’t the opposite of progress be congress? -
It's simply a reflection of the degradation of society.
Kids raising themselves...parents to busy to listen or to pay attention to what their kids do...I say **** em. **** that 9 year old and his parents. They all get what they deserve. Since the kid obviously hasn't learned that his actions do not carry ramifications, he felt he could act without fear. Well guess what slick..once the police have a hold of you, the rules are reality, your actions do carry consiquences, blame your parents, they are the ones who wanted to be your friend rather than be your parent.
Of course the parents think the boys should be punished by the school system...that's because the parents have a say in the school system. They can bitch, they can attend board meetings, they can piss and moan until the boys get a pat on the head if they apologize and promise not to do it again. But when Law Enforcement gets involved the situation is completely outside of any parental control.
3rd graders drawing pictures of killing another studentHmm, I have to wonder if went unnoticed if another Columbine was in the works. **** them kids, what kind of fucked up lives do those kids lead to see that action as a solution to their problems?
See Mommy and Daddy...the only people who think Little Jimmy does no wrong is YOU. Everyone else sees him for what he is, don't lose sight of objectivity. -
IMO they should have been sent to the school counselor and maybe a therapist. I doubt handcuffs and jail is the best morale booster and confidence builder.
Public humiliation is something I agree with, but I think arresting a child over a picture is a bit excise. If there's anyone that needs to be taken in by Police, it should be the parents for questioning. Someone of authority is a little to edgy. -

then they should ban koolaid in schools as it was used in a massive suicide (murder?) (jonestown) ..
should ban milk and water also"Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
I can understand suspicion if the desserts were just brought in arbitrarily, but it's rare that kids do that. Usually it's for a class party or something. However, suspicion isn't large enough to allow a school board to press anything against the girl and her mother. The least they could have done was either have the contents of one checked or had the girl return home with them. Or even a notice saying that they can't be in plastic cups for appearances. Honestly, I would have put them in cupcake tins if they had asked or made such a statement, but even then I wouldn't have a grip about jello in plastic cups.
I would have had to call the cops and sue the bi**h if there were carrots or celery in the Jello though.Makes me sick thinking about it.
ruin a good desert by adding crap like that. Next people will be putting Hot dogs in chocolate pudding. Sounds kindda ghey to me.

My kids know better than to do that -- I raised them better than that. The kids were wrong. I don't know who the bigger culprits are -- the kids or the parents who just let this kind of shit happen.
Bet the kids will think long and hard before doing that kinda shit again, though.
Way to go Northie -- tell it like it is!!!

Parents and kids are both at fault
penalize them both!
on the topic of society degrading and too much coddling of kids, political correctness is soaring to outrageous hieghts that just piss the hell outta me. I can't say someone's black, but I can say someone else is white?! gimme a break. now back to the kids and their parents
ABSURDDDDDDD we live in a world of hypocrisy

I need some serious wooosaaaing and a few shots of JD today....
....my irritation has reached it's limit....
Kid I had in class in the first semester, decided that he would light a paper airplane on fire and throw it across his english class. Of course the teacher saw it. Busted the kid. Kid was searched, lighter was found, it's in the shape of a gun, a Derenger. Kid was expelled for 80 days.
2nd semester started this past monday, kid has returned. He has missed 3 chapters worth of material. Comes in and wants me to stay after school and to come in early to catch him upHe has apparently mistaken Northcat for a bleeding heart...but since his grade was a 12% before he left, I'm not feeling much responsibility here.
Anyway, kid gets mad when I told him I wasn't going to do that. Apparently called his father sometime this morning, I got called down to the office during last period to speak with this youngman and his father. Apparently he thought that would change my mind
So I go down there, his dad gets all bent out of shape, etc, etc. When he finished I said "well Mr. Father of a dumbass pyromaniac <not really> I am sorry you feel that way, Corey's grade was a 12% F before he got expelled, while I am willing to help all of my students at anytime, Corey has my home and cell phone numbers, he has my email address, MSN address, and AOL screen name that I handed out to every student on the first day of school, which he returned the 2nd day of school with your signature on it <handed him the slip of paper>. It seems to me that if you and Corey were genuinely concerned about his education and particularly his grade in my class, he would have been doing the Algebra 2 work on his own and contacting me through one of these channels for help during his explusion. He did not, you did not, so I do not feel I should have to spend extra time catching him up for material he missed because of his own actions."
Principal told me I could go back to class and the father of the dumbass student just sat there.
********** with me will ya

I never understood suspension. You punish a kid by telling them they don't have to go to school?

Again, I don't think that's working as much today as it used to. -
