  1. ok, I'm about to export my video to .avi here in pinnacle studio, I can choose between some compression codecs such as:

    Cinepak Codec
    DV Video Encoder
    Indeo cideo 5.10
    Intel Indeo Video R 3.2
    Intel Indeo Video 4.5
    PICVideo MJPEG Compressor
    Pinnacle MPEG 4
    Sony DV software codec

the thing is, i am doing my presentation, so the computer i will present, is not mine, so it doesnt has any codec or something, so which one of those above, will let me open in any computer?

    also how is the quality?

    Hello,

Mpeg 1 SHOULD open in ANY computer as it's been around the longest.

MPEG 2 will only work if you have a dvd player on it.

  5. yeah, the thing is that MPEG1 tha max resolution is 352 X 240, and that quality is bad hehe, so in AVI let's say the SONY codec, yeah I can have 720 X 480,

In the sony i have some options such as:

    De-unterlace (fullsize playback only)
    Off or On

Aspect ratio: 4: 3 normal mode or 16: 9 wide mode

then in the audio properties, i can choose this:
    Include Audio in AVI: Checked
    List all codecs: unchecked

    Type: PCM

    Channels: 16 bit stereo
    sample rate: 48 khz

are these settings are supposed to be correct ?

you can have higher than 352 X 240 resolution with mpeg1 and high bit rate .. mpeg1 can look very very good .....

dont de-interlace unless nessessary as you are losing quality ...

While DV should be your master file for highest quality backup, DV will prove difficult to play on an unknown computer. Either burn the DV to a DVD (MPeg2) or like they say, create a MPeg1 version that can play from most any computer in a basic player like WMP.

If the playback computer is known to be a Windows PC, WMV will also probably work.

Before going the DVD route, make sure the playback machine has a DVD-ROM and software for DVD playback.

I'd go with at least two of the above formats if the presentation is important. I'd prioritize MPeg1, WMV, DVD. Test the playback before the event.
