  1. Hi.

I recently got a new computer with a Pioneer DVR-109 burner.

I installed DVDDecrypter and Nero on the computer and both programs only think that the 109 is capable of writing 1x speed.

I upgraded to the 1.17 firmware to no effect.

I'm using TDK 2x media that works fine on my Pioneer A106D burner at 2x speed.

    Any ideas?

  4. I don't think it's a media problem...I think it's a hardware problem.

How does the computer know how fast the drive is?

  5. It doesn't......

    What computer do you have?

Is listed right in the bios?

Is it set to DMA mode?

  6. I have a Voodoo Omen.

The Pioneer looks like it's connected through the NVIDIA CK804 Parallel ATA Controller (v2.7).

That controller is using driver verion 5.10.2600.464.

The DVR-109 is on the primary channel and it's set to use a transfer mode of "Ultra DMA 4 Ultra 66" and to let the BIOS set the transfer mode.

  7. Well, apparently the DVR-109 doesn't support any 2X DVD-R media. I found this PDF on the Pioneer Australia site...

That kind of sucks. I have a whole bunch of the TDK 2x DVD-R media that I use for burning DVDs...

I guess I'll have to keep my Dell around for a while...

Not surprising. You'd think people would get at the very least 4x media if they bought a 16x writer.
Sorry, I had to go see about a girl

  9. Well, it does support 1x media... And I've sucessfully written to my 2x media (at 1x) even though it's not supported.

And of course new media that I buy will be a lot faster, but I still have about 85 blank 2x media...

First get your drive off the ATA controller card. Second, make sure you have an 80 wire IDE cable connected to this drive.

Absolutely, put it in MB IDE channel.
Your drives passes its speed info to burning app. App checks inserted disc burning strategy and compares with burner's abilities, it offers a speed compatible with media. Check your burner properties in burning app, it will tell you all drive capabilities (also max speed).
