  1. I have a problem brining a Powerpoint presentation with video in QT. It plays perfectly on my Mac, I burned the presentation to a DVD, and when I bring it up on my PC to present the powerpoint, Every time I had a video clip, it gives me this error: QuickTime and Motion JPEG OpenDML decompressor are needed to see this

Does anyone know a fix for this? A large codec pack maybe? Anything ? THanks guys!

Powerpoint is not a Movie producer But here ya go.:

Edit: Sounds like QT is missing some components on the PC. Are you on the latest version?

There are at least 6 different ways to incorporate video into PPT. If you are using the simplest method (INSERT | MOVIE | FROM FILE etc), you will be fine on the Mac, but you can only use QT 2.5 or earlier (and its supported codecs).
If you want to make use of QT3+, do (INSERT | OBJECT|QTobject, or INSERT|OBJECT|PACKAGE--and encapsulate the QT movie with "PACKAGER", or use a Web Hyperlink). This will require that the audience's computer have QT installed, as well as the codec for the type of compression used in the movie. But do not assume that it will be automatically downloadable.

    -or-

Re-encode the movie to an AVI or MPEG of some sort and re-insert the movie from within Windows.

    That should help...

  4. Yeah, it's the latest version on QB on PC. We can get the entire rest of the presentation to play, just not the QT clips. They were video taken from a still camera that can take short videos. They look great on Apple, don't play on PC. Just want it to work seamlessly (yeah right! ha ) I'm looking at trying Cornucopia's method too- THanks guys- it just seems a little weird the clip won't play. It plays fine as a QT file by itself on PC and on Apple, but when in the Powerpoint, it messes up on PC. - Thanks any other suggestions?-

Export the video out as a Sorenson 3. It is backwards compatiable back to QT 5.

Edit: if you have Final Cut Pro and compressor an MPEG-1 or 2 would probably work OK too.

  6. QuickTime for Windows and QuickTime for Mac do not have exactly the same codec set available. This is true even when they are both the latest version (6.5.2). For example, QuickTime for Mac has the DVCPRO50 codecs which are not available for Windows, while QuickTime for Windows has the Intel Indeo codec and that is not available on the Mac.

    So much for full compatibility!

You're right that the codec lists aren't identical, but you're wrong on your examples. The Apple version of DVCPro50 isn't available, but a totally compatible FAST version is. The MacOSX systems don't have the Indeo codecs, but the MacOS 8-9's do.

I believe this instance is one of those codecs that is particular to the camcorder, but which could map out to (be compatible with) a standard MJPEG-A or MJPEG-B.

Nonetheless, it still would be more smooth on the audience's end if you were to convert to AVI or MPEG, and then re-incorporate it with PPT in Windows.

Where can I find the FAST codec? I would be very happy to be able to play DVCPro50 Quicktime files under Windows.

    Thanks for your help-

Used to come with Cleaner or FASTstudio. Pinnacle bought out FAST, AVID just bought out Pinnacle. Probably quite hard to find now, but IIWY, I'd look at some of those Codec MegaPak's available on web. Have seen it listed in there a few times.

    HTH!
Thanks for all the info. I installed the FAST DV Player, but it didn't install a DVCPRO50 quicktime codec. I tried installing the FAST studio service pack, but it wouldn't let me run the install, since I don't have FAST studio installed.

I'll look in some of codec packs, but the ones I've seen so far only have AVI DVCPRO50 codecs, not quicktime DVCPRO50 codecs.

I have a bunch of footage in DVCPRO50 quicktime, shot using an SDX900 camera, and transfered using a Panasonic deck that would only work with Macs. I'd like to keep shooting DVCPRO50; next time I guess I'll have to find a PC-compatible deck.

    Thanks again-
