    problem: the subject says it all.

    the videos themselves play perfectly, but i navigate through them. this occurs with every avi file i play which utilizes the xvid and divx codecs.

    ...like in "Windows Media Player"? Don't know - it could well be a problem with your AVIs and/or codecs, but I strongly advice against using WMP for anything besides possibly padding out some bad sectors on your HDD. Try somethiung else like BSPlayer, Media Player Classic, Zoom Player, Playa...
