  1. O.K it's a little complicated so I'll explain it all. I currently have a DVD for sale, there's going to be a second edition of this with another video from someone else's DVD as an extra on it. So I'm going to be reauthoring the DVD with this extra video. The question is, I'm being sent the DVD which I'll then need to rip and author into my own project, what would be the best way to go about this? I know the 'best' way would be to get the original AVI footage but that isn't an option. Would it be better to rip to it's compressed mpeg version or to a high quality AVI then author that? Could you please advise how to go about doing it too, programs and such, thank you.

Read the guides and I would rip the mpeg.

I'd say rip the DVD, and reauthor, including the 'extra' in the authoring

    TMPGenc DVD Author
    DVD Decrypter to rip

Simple reasons are thats what I have and use, and also for creating simple menus TMPGenc DVD Author does the job nicely, but you can have motion menus as well

If the final DVD is greater than a single DVD, run it through DVD Shrink, and use DVD Decrypter to burn the DVD

  4. Sorry I should of put. I've already authored the 'first version' with Ulead DVD Workshop using raw AVI files and letting it compress them during authoring (I have found this to give much better results than TMPEGEnc) so I'll be using Ulead to author it again. But I just wasn't sure if I then ripped the new video to mpeg if it would then compress the original content more. But also if i ripped it to avi if it would recompress it sucessfully.
