What source are you recording from?
    What settings are you using?
Are you capturing the video to a seperate hard drive from the one Win 98 is installed on?

    Give more details.

right click on my computer, go to properties, then device manager, click on cdrom devices and highlight your drive, click properties, under on of the tabs (I think it is the first one) you will see a box for DMA, if it is not grayed out or already selected check it. If it is already enabled then the problem could be another program running in the background, antivirus, etc.

dma was checked for the cd burner. the cdrom didnt even give me a choice.

then always playback in the burner as the cdrom without dma will always give poor performance for video playback, if you still have problems again I would check to make sure you close all running programs before playing videos

  10. If some files work and others don't then you either got a crap download (most likely) or you need a different codec(like DivX). ATI file player very tolerant, you can also try playing file with Windows Media Player or STHSVCD.
