  1. My ADSL account should (fingers crossed) have been activated today whilst I am in work and I'm very much looking forward to getting home and getting back online. One slight problem is that I received a phone call last night from someone I'd not spoken to in years, the reason for the phone call is that he has just had broadband installed but his "hub" as he called it kept dropping out. I have no idea what he is on about but I said I'd pop down tonight and take a look. He's already mentioned cash and beer so thats a pretty good incentive but I can't believe that on the one day of the year I get my broadband activated I'll be out somewhere else fixing his. This is just my bastard luck.

So what the **** do I do when I get there ?

IF he means his modem is dropping out chances are he'll need to pester his ISP to get him a new one. Other then that I dunno.

I wish you gooder luck with your broadband.

Cheers, I do have a spare at home that I no longer use so I may take that down for him.

Is your broadband up and running ?

Technically yeah. I still have to get them to figure out why it drops anytime it gets foggy or rains. Also when usage is high the speed isn't effected BUT the ping goes upto 2500 which is unusable in games. I still have to keep a dialup account just to make sure I can play World of Warcraft.

Thats bloody shocking and I thought we were behind in the UK.

If my broadband went out if it rained or got foggy it would never be useable.

Sounds like rain fade. Any mositure in the air will degrade the signal
but you should not lose lock in foggy conditions. Do all sites report
as 2500 or just some? If you are within tested range then I'd suspect
they have either undersized your dish or not aimed it properly.

All sites I've tried do the bad ping. andi tdoesn't requrie the rain to do so. Just a heavy traffic time of day. Just to make sure everyone understnads its two seperate issues.

The antenna they gave me is tiny, but even when the ping is bad I got a solid enough connection according to the utility that test it. When it RAINS however it drops straight to the floor. I figure next time it rains I'll call and bitch until they give me the deluxe antenna instead.

OR hopefully maybe the other wireless ISP will put an antenna up high enough that I can just call up and give these guys a piece of my mind and call it a day.
