**OKAY SOUNDS LIKE A STUPID QUESTION JUST WANT TO CONFIRM**
If the latest hack to remove MACROVISION on the ILO HD04 works, does this mean that I could record from my dvd player without having to use the Sima GODVD between player and recorder?

Guitarman: Thank you for all of your work and attention to creating the hacks for the ILO's. I appreciate it as well as many others here. Thanks for your dedication.
**I have a question however: The macrovision hack for the HD04 does not allow the "copy from dvd to hard drive" When you put a dvd movie in the ILO's dvd drive to copy to the harddrive it will not copy it, it keeps saying change disk. Does the macrovison hack only let you copy from another dvd player hooked up to the ilo or was it meant to do both? I tried after applying the fix to copy from the ilos dvd drive to the ilo hard drive but it wont allow me. Any input would be helpfull Thanks!
(This was posted earlier in another forum about the ILO's firmware page, this should be here instead-excuse the duplicate post) -

I'm not guitarman but I can answer your question.....
Macrovision is a process where the sync bytes for the video was removed from their normal place on VHS tapes and placed in a place there other recorders would not read them properly.
CPPM is the process where they set certain bytes on prerecorded DVD disks and prevent the copy process as you have discribed.
Here is how you can get by that problem if you wish. Buy a cyberhome dvd from BB and plug it into the HD04 and record from the DVD that way.
That is what I Did Look at my system -
Sorry Here is the picture of my system with the shuttle on.
Cyberhome sits on the left.

carter2004,
The MV hack is ONLY for copying DVD's/VHS "real time" through the A/V inputs on the ILO. It disables the ILO's Macrovision sensing. The HD04 will not copy normal DVD's from the DVD drive to the HDD unless the DVD is in the DVD+VR format (used by most DVD recorders).
I hope this helps -
Guitarman:
Thanks for clearing that up for me. I am still trying new things out with my ilo. So far I like it, I haven't had any major problems. I usually use an external dvd player to copy dvds for my son so he doesn't ruin the original and then I fooled around with the "copy" function yesterday and had that problem. Thanks again for your help. -
Marquis:
Thank you also for explaining things. I love learning about these techy things. I appreciate the expertise many of the posters here have like yourself. I could not see the photo of your system, is the link broken?
I do have a jvc dvd player hooked up to the ILO and a Sima GODVD between the two. I bought the sima before the altered macrovision firmware so I guess I am out a few bucks since I did not wait for the hack. Either way it works well.
