Any of the swap meets / computer fairs in Melbourne you can get a good deal.

But where in the world are you? Hint: Update your profile...

  6. I'm in Texas, near Dallas.. here in the USA.. so Melbourne would be a great place to find DVDRs on Vacation, but not for a regular buy

I've heard Riteks are not the way to go? I'm using a Liteon 812S->832S firmware upgraded... I've been using Matrix 8x -R's from shop4tech and I'm not impressed... at 8x they almost always skip, at 4x is a crap shoot, but they are more reliable.

Since I just got my R200, now I need printables, and locally all I can find are Memorex +R's at $49/100 at CompUSA or $69/100 @ Fry's. I saw the Ritek -R's for $49/100pcs shipped, thats about the lowest price I found, but read somewhere to stay away fro G05's? Was hoping someone might be able to provide a url or link to a reliable cheap source for printables.

You won't find any good inkjet media in stores.
    Online, www.supermediastore.com, www.rima.com, www.meritline.com.
    Prodisc, TY, Maxell.

Stay away from the Fry's stuff (Piodata )
    Avoid CompUSA stuff too.
Memorex inkjet may or may not be Prodisc,
and at any rate, is too expensive compared to online.

  8. I have been using media from www.finodisc.com. No I don't work for them. I just finished a DVD project which required 300 DVD's. I bought Full Faced DVD-R Fino Disc for $37 for a 100. They have a bright white face and worked well with my R200.

They burned well with my 4 pioneer 108s and my Nec 2510. I know they ship, I typically pick them up during the computer fair in Orange County so I don't pay shipping. They also have good prices on cases.

    Good Luck.

    Toaster,
Your computer profile says you have a pioneer dvdr but you've just written that you have a lite-on

Lordsmurf suggested buying online. This is usually true and I also recommend following his suggestion. The selection is much much better.

You must know if you want hub or regular WIP dvds.
I do not know your burner, but I've read that Lite-on are better with DVD+R. Anyway, this is not important. The point is: check the forum to know what media codes usually gives good results with your burner.

You want Hub printable, then forget TY. They are pretty rare. Most of the webstore do not have them (Rima, per example).
    My suggestions:
+R 8x Verbatim MCC 003 (best), Prodiscs (good).
    -R 8x G05, Verbatim (MCC-02RG20)
Pls note that Verbatim -R8x are not true Hub but are very close to. I think I adjust the inner diameter at 35mm (not sure), this is good enough.

Although I love the burning quality of TY, the printable surface is the smallest on the market, you have to adjust the inner diameter at 44mm. Not much left for artwork

    My last comments
    Print surface:
=> Ridata Ritek G05 = pretty similar to prodisc
=> Ty = pretty similar to verbatim (I suspect the same)
Both are fine . Ritek-Prosdisc are a bit smoother and can absorb more ink.

After you print on hub printable, you will not want to print on non-hub anymore!!

    Ooppps another last comment:
If you can buy a few samples, do it.
I've used two spindles of G05 with my pioneer 108 with great results (burning quality, playback and compatibility). Your burner is the key. 8)

  10. That darn profile again

I think I got it updated this time... Man I registered for this forum a loooong time ago

We've actually got 4 DVD burners in the house, I personally have a Liteon 812s running the 832s DL firmware, and my 2 sons have BTC 1108IM's and the home theater pc has a Emprex (BTC) 1008 recorder in it. Most of the burning is done by me (lazy kids), and since we also have an Xbox and PS2, I try to buy -R's just for compatibility with the consoles

I would want hub printables for sure, since I have been labelling with non hub printable labels- so I know all too well how stuff doesnt fit

  11. Toaster,
Check out shop4tech again, they now do have the sonic DVD-R 8x white inkjet printable which made by TAIYO YUDEN (I read in the customer review). And I, myself, did order 200 of them to see if they are true, made from TY. If it is true, then you'll have the the best quality media w/the best deal on net. I'll have my order around next week and will post back if it is TY on SONIC brand.

You can still use coupon code xp10 for 10% off media at www.shop4tech.com. I bought a 100 sonic DVD-R 8x white inkjet printable for 29.70. I hope they are TY's.

Mods, if the coupon shouldn't be here please delete the post.

I have just tried some silver printable DVDs, and they look GREAT, printe by my R200! I have one of the first R200's avaialable in Canada, no idea if there have been any changes.

The surface texture and silver colouring makes the printing different, and nicer (in my opinion).

The DVD's were 4x -R Prodisc, but I am not impressed with the discs themselves - had to burn at 2X using a NEC 2500A and a Plextor PX-712. Lost a few anyways, but they ALWAYS bombed out at 4X.

Of course, your milage may vary......

The Matrix ones I had from shop4tech (which were NOT printable) had the TYG02 code, but they were fakes... Most people who tried them loved them- I personally had issues with them, now I'm learning it might have legitimately been my Liteon- seems that this driver prefers +R's and I bought -R's But they never did burn correctly for me at 8x, and I went through a lot of them, close to 400, and almost all at 4x with some skipping

    Good luck with the Dupsonics

    Toaster,
You do not want to use TAIYO YUDEN media in a BTC drive. Does not work very well. The PRODISC media, however, do that for the BTC's.

  22. I just called shop4tech, they said they are FULL FACE printable... he said that meant printing all the way to the hole. Hard to understand, his engrish was a rittle broken

I think you're good... I'd be interested to know what the media code is, before I order any.

  24. Reading the reviews- the code looks to be TYG02, which is the same as the Matrix -R 8x I bought from them... I'd say they are fakes (again) but thats not necessarily a bad thing... If they look ok and burn ok.

What I've been told to look for in DVDR media is a somewhat rough edge, where you can see the glue went all the way to the edges. The rest is upto the dye and drive I guess ???

At $30/100, thats hard to beat- if they burn worth a damn

The fake TYG02 are poorly constructed, bad glue jobs.

  27. In my opinion Memorex has the best print for the 200. I've tried a multitude of different media, hub inclusive, and when it comes to reproducing black or other dark backgrounds nothing compares to Memorex.

These have been reported on in numerous posts as phoney TY media. Avoid at all costs. Also recent posts have indicated a lot of trouble with Prodisc 8X printable. These vary between any of 4 different media codes and some take days to dry. Others just don't print worth crap. Another problem to avoid.
