First of all, i can't type to save my life, but i hope that you all can understand what i am saying anyways. Secondly, i was wondering if there are larger cd/dvd capasity disks then 4.7GB. What i want to do is work related, i work for a newspaper company, and would like to save a lot of information to disk without haveing a lot of disks. Understand? I don't knoe who told me, but someone said that there are disk up to 8GB???? Does anyone know if this is right? if so, or not, please let me know so that i can put this rumor to rest one way or another. Thanks

Yes, double layer DVD+R discs can hold up to 8.5GB. You'll need a double-layer capable DVD burner (as low as $60) and double-layer discs (still around $10 a pop). Are you needing other people to be able to read these discs, or are they just for your own personal archival. You can check the Writers link on the left pane to see which drives support burning, but as far as what will read it, it's hit and miss. Give a little more info on what you're wanting to do with the data and we may be able to give you other options.

nothing fancy. bookkeeping, and archiving basically. the think is that my boss doesn't know much about computers so i want to get as much information on one disk as i possibly can. that way all he has to do is stick it in and all the information is right there. i spent over 30min explaining to him just how to turn on a computer. that's about it really

If it's just bookkeeping, I'd probably stick to plain old CDs. Maybe separate them by months. Why chance screwing up years of data with one tiny scratch? You can get a decent spindle of 100CDs for the cost of a 3-pack of DL disks. Again there's no guarantee they'll be able to read the DL disks either.
