Last year I fitted a Benq 822a DVD R/W to my PC and it as been working very well using Sonics record now softwear that came with it. It says it is able to take + & - DVD R's R/W's and even comes with book type management software. However when I try to burn onto a DVD -R disk, a third of the way into the burn it stops and says it canot compleste the task because the disk is dirty or damaged and suggests I try another disk. I have gone through 5 brand new TDK disks and cannot get it to work. Any ideas out there, is it me doing somthing completely wrong? Rob

Could be a few thing wrong, virus, bad batch of dvds, needs cleaning, needs to be replaced, defrag, bad ide cable,if you have a nforce motherboard and you have nvidia ide drivers installed uninstall them and install the ms drivers.
    I think,therefore i am a hamster.

I bought some of the TDK's from Best Buy and the top two discs on the Spindle had crap on them.

My NEC 3250 completed the burn but when I looked at the bottom the was half a dozen dots of gunk on there. The dots were only one milimeter in diameter but when I wiped them off there was dark spot on the dye.

I haven't tested them but I assume they are crappy burn.

Also I had the burn speed set to 8x's but the max speed reached during the Burn was only 6x's.

The second spindle only the first disc had crud on it.

Other people have reported the top 5 or 6 discs have some sort of dirt on them.

This might be why they were on sale.

I actually had the opposite experience with the motherboard but I have nForce. I find the nforce 2 nVidia drivers are better than the Microsoft ones.

But Johns0 only mentioned the nforce so maybe the problem is the nforce and not the nfocre 2.

Are you comfortable looking the Device Manager. If you are then switching drivers isn't that hard.

But if you don't know about the Device manager you should be able to learn using Windows Help files. If you are a quck learner

Or maybe you know someone that will show you .
    snappy phrase

    I don't know what you're talking about.

Thanks, but would this not also cause problems with the + disks which are working fine. Rob
