While I was importing a number of cd's into iTunes, I noticed that it was taking a while to do each album. It would rip a song, then stop spinning and start up again, then do another song, etc etc. Adding what in reality is only a couple of minutes, maybe, to the total time.
Anyway, tried the next cd in my dvd-writer and it kept spinning at a constant rate. Took probably just a minute or so less. No big deal, but it got me thinking.
Why do the two drives sound so differently when doing the same thing? I use the dvd-rom for ripping dvd's and it hasn't acted up at all.
Thoughts?

Since dvd's and cd's have different laser wavelengths, it is probably normal for the access times.
A combo drive is always going to do things a little slower.
Imo, I wouldn't worry about it.
