Hi.
I have just started using my new Asus DVD-E616P2 (QuieTrack system). Plays all my commercial dvds silently. Very nice. But when I play most the dvds and cds that I have made, there is some noise - sometimes just like a slightly noisy drive, sometimes a whirring that accelerates and decelerates.
I have tried different media (although no expensive ones yet) and different apps to create and burn the dvds.
I contacted ASUS about this and they suggest that one possibility is "encoding quality". Is this true? If so, then how can I test this? What exactly is "encoding quality", and what is a good encoing quality?
Any ideas appreciated.

More likely to quality of the media. -/+R have different surface and read characteristics to commercial disks, and could make the drive work harder when playing. Better media might make a difference, as would burn quality, but encoding quality is probably the least likely to have an impact.
